In short: A Classic Race, 57 years, oldest race in Gloucestershire In full: By the way there was a big yellow sign on the main road and then about three other signs on the road including the turn off. Most of the proper locals were at the Cranham Feast which was held at the same time and same place as the race. The race has a long 3 mile stretch down hill after the first two miles and then a killer hill at the end which sorts everyone out. Come and see if you can run the hill at the end. In short: Water station just after 6k was to far into race should have been earlier In full: I spoke to about a dozen people after the race and all felt the water station should heve been earlier about 5k. Two runners said they were so dehydrated that when they got to the water station they could not actually swallow properly. I was gasping for water at 5k as it was quite humid and I was overheating. The second half of the race has some tough climbs. Some runners in front of me took no water as they said it was near to the finish well I overtook four out of the five of them. They would have taken the water if it had been earlier in the race. Date of review: August 8, 2008

In short: Good low key race for time of year. In full: Having run this course loads of times I new 4 laps would be tough, but interesting. Its not a PB course although I ran a PB by 5 minutes but that was not done to the course being fast. Glad I had my Garmin as distance markers every 10 miles would not of helped with pacing. Drink stations were adequate for the 50km. One station had energy drinks and the other water, so energy gels were needed by me at the water station. Route was very clear and explained in detail at the pre-race briefing. Excellent marshalling and people at the drinks stations. As is normal with ultras most of the race I was running by myself, it would have been better if the Marathon runners had done the same start route then we would of had persons to run with. Had no problems turning left for the finish, counting 4 laps was easy compared to the 30+ laps in some ultras. Nice drinking glass momento. Well done to everyone for putting on a January Marathon and Ultra which was much needed in the race calender. Date of review: January 30, 2008
