In short: Friendly, interesting race In full: Very well attended race with nearly 500 competitors finishing. Busy at the start as the car park was full but kind lady who lives next door let me and 4 other cars park on her driveway. This sums up the friendliness of the race. A nice interesting course mainly on paths and generally flat with a few inclines after about 8km. Recommend to others. It was also raising money for a good cause.
In short: Friendly race at a great time of the year In full: I knew when I arrive and was greeted by one of the organisers and encouraged to park only 40m from the start of the race that it would be well organised. Excellent facilities at the sports centre only 100m away. Being so close meant I could stay warm until it was close to the start of the race and time to do my warm up. The race was very well organised and marshalled. Yes it is in the centre of East Kilbride so maybe not the most scenic but I was pushing for a season's best so this was the last thing on my mind. A good mixed field of 138 runners. Although East kilbride is flat there was a number of "undulations" to keep you having to push a bit. Managed a season best and would recommend it to anyone who wants to do a late season 10k. Thanks to all the marshalls and organisers and friendly competitors who made the 200+ mile round trip for me well worth it Date of review: December 1, 2009
In short: Very friendly, well organised and good route In full: Is it or isn'y it hilly? According to my Garmin GPS there was 712ft (217m) of climbing so yes there was hills but they weren't over steep or too long. Most of the climbing was over with after the first 5 miles. It is a really good course with a nice mixture of city and countryside. Well supported considering the weather. It was well organised because everything that was planned to happen did happen. I understand the challenges with the narrow entrance to the castle for this quite large race therefore you can't have everyone turning up with 10 minutes to go and crushing in. The start was excellent, as soon as you got out the castle the route widened really quickly, this meant you could get up to speed after only a few hundred yards. Big thanks to the marshalls and people at the drink stations so often taken for granted. Overall I would recommend this to anyone as a fun, friendly race. Date of review: October 26, 2009
In short: Good chance of PB as long as it not windy In full: I really enjoyed this race. You have to be over 35 to enter but that doesn't mean the runners are slower. A good range of all abilities. Marshalling was excellent and the route was very pleasant and flat. I think most people left straight after the race because of the weather and having no shelter at finish. I think it is well worth doing. Make sure you leave enough time to get to the start as it is a good walk away from the registration area. Date of review: August 20, 2009
