In short: Much better than previous Edinburgh half marathons In full: Having done many of the previous half marathons in Edinburgh and getting fed up going along the coast all the time (same with the full marathon), I much more enjoyed the imaginative course through Edinburgh. There were hills to knock a few minutes off your pace but nothing more. Starting and finishing in holyrood made everything much easier. Good medal, T shirt etc. with excellent organisation. Oh and the bands were brill! Date of review: April 21, 2012

In short: Steadily deteriorated over the years but still worth doing In full: Too many events on same day. Very poor finish design. Even without the race course finish could have been much better (medal and goody bag area was a disaster) Should be able to remove the out and back along a side street. London road start is poor (beside a busy road).
However, the marshalls are great, there is generally a good atmosphere and the course is fast. With better thought about the finish the race could be much better. Date of review: May 25, 2011

In short: What a difference a year makes. Much much better. A very enjoyable race In full: Only a few minor gripes. Well organised. Good start and finish. Route could be improved - lots of 180 deg turns and tight turn near the finish. Was taking splits at every mile and 2 of them were less than 5:30; which I don't believe. I'm presuming the mile markers were just in the wrong place and the route was 13.1 ? A great day out and a PB to boot. Date of review: April 1, 2007

In short: Where was everyone? In full: Less than 6000 finished - but over 8,000 had registered. I don't think many dropped out, so I'm beginning to think that a few people were put off by a little dampness or maybe they couldn't find the start in the fog? Date of review: May 7, 2006

In short: What a fantastic day, but running up the hill in a kilt is tough In full: Superb location and very well organised. 3 good excuses for not getting a PB though: 1 wearing a kilt 2. The HILL, 3. Warm day Date of review: April 30, 2006

In short: Awesome scenery and cool weather. A long, tough race though In full: 6 am start, 43 miles, 6000+ ft of climbing, some rough (but good) tracks. However the scenery is fantastic, the comaraderie is great and a nice trophy if you finish. Date of review: January 12, 2006

In short: Well organised and well attended cross country race in castle grounds In full: Lots of different races for different ages. Separate races for men and women. Lots of club (and school) runners, so plenty of competition. Finish line is up a steep muddy hill for everyone Date of review: January 12, 2006

In short: Definitely one to remember In full: Mixture of hills and flats, superb paths and tedious bog and heather. Well organised checkpoints considering the small no. of entries. Having a handicap system is great to get people finishing at roughly the same time, but the handicap prize is wide open to abuse. Date of review: July 18, 2005
