In short: How can you run out of finishers t-shirts? In full: Nice flat course, reasonably interesting although the Portway out and back is just a slog. Excellently organised start and superb marshalling all the way. Nicely spaced water stations .... I could hardly fault this race until I crossed the finish line.
How, when there are no entries on the day and you've had my money for months could you run out of finishers t shirts? You knew the number of entrants who paid their money and who had a fair chance of needing one. The people who were supposed to be hand were apologetic and embarassed, I couldn't find anyone official to complain to.
I know I was at the slow end of the second wave but I was still a finisher. If the GNR and VLM can organise enough shirts (I have both) then dont't see why can't Brirstol. I did email to complain, no reply or acknowlegement yet ... poor show and spoiled a great event. Date of review: October 2, 2012

In short: Squelch squelch In full: Why i turn up year after year to half drown in stinky mud I have never worked out. I have new found respect for mud wrestlers and a washing machine demanding therapy.
Fantastic organisation and great marshals. Nice towel at the end and seldom has there been a more appropriate finishers prize.
See you next year Date of review: November 13, 2011

In short: Couldn't feel my fingers ... couldn't feel my toes ... In full: no idea where my shoes ended, socks finished and where legs began ... it was mud to the waist! Great fun. Superbly organised. Brilliant marshalls who joined in the fun. Plenty of chat on the way round and everyone having fun. Bitton Road Runners .... don't ever change one squishy squelchy step of it ... but shouldn't you change you name to Bitton Mud Runneres? Date of review: November 15, 2010

In short: Norty norty for bringing in that big hill .... but I forgive you In full: It would be hard to find fault with this race. The scenery is to die for and it has a lovely friendly vibe. Course change since last year which came as a nasty shock as that hill didn't give me a warm and fuzzy moment at all. However, I forgive you as I can see the logic for the change. Marshalling was, as ever, efficient and friendly with plenty of water in the right places. One tiny little nitpick .... can you run to a mars bar or summit in the goody bag ... that would have gone down a treat and it's a long way to walk to Tesco with sore legs! In short: Superbly Organised .... as usual! In full: Not my favourite course as the bit through the housing estate is dull in the extreme and there are a few small but sapping hills. Stadium finish is brilliant though :-)
Brilliant organisation, plenty of loos at the start, friendly marshalls and drinks in all the right places.
Not sure about the orange t-shirt though! Date of review: March 14, 2010

In short: Lovely bimble round the countryside on a super sunny day In full: Nice one loop course with lots of pretty snowdrops to look at as well as some alpacas (and I know I wasn't hallucinating as somebody else saw them too). Lots of water stations and a great t-shirt at the finish. I do like a track finish - it puts a bit of bounce into the tiredest of legs. Date of review: March 8, 2010

In short: What a (mud) lark! In full: Well done to the organisers for taking the time to find a new course, it would have been so sad to let this fantastic race fold.
One of the best team of marshalls you'll find. Cheery, encouraging and always happy to help pull runners out of the squishiest of muddy bits.
The sheep dip ditch was brilliant - that just has to stay. I thought the new course was better than the old one - didn't seem to tough.
If you want to concentrate on staying clean and getting a good time then it's not the race for you. If you want to have a good time and find mud and grit in places you didn't kno you had then come along and wallow! Date of review: November 9, 2009

In short: Anyone for a wallow?? In full: Don't believe anything they tell you about this race - it's ten times worse than you could imagine but a hundred times more fun than you imagine anything like that could be!
Very touching at the start with the 2 mins silence and the Last Post. Everyone wearing a poppy.
I'd seen the photos but nothing prepared me for the reality of the mud, the water, the mud and .... more mud! And the water .... cold ... very cold ... and you just don't want to think what may lurk beneath!
I was beginning to really embrace the concept and replace my grimace with a grin when I had one tumble too many and had to be carted off with a twisted ankle :-(
I'll be back next year ... it takes a lot more than an bit of English mud to beat this Celt. Date of review: November 11, 2008

In short: How could you not love it? In full: My first marathon and I think I might have been spoilt forever!
Beautiful setting and course with views to take your breath away and ease the pain round every corner. Enough hills to take your breath away too.
Organisation was flawless and the enthusiasm of those at the drink stations, especially the kids, was a joy. The area embraces this event and you get the feeling that they really want everyone to go home with good memories .... and tell everyone else what a fantastic place this is.
The stadium finish makes you feel like a 'real runner' no matter how far down the field you finish and the goody bag actually lived up to its name.
All this AND cheap beer in the pub later ... does running get any better ;-) Date of review: October 7, 2008

In short: Please get your start better organised! In full: As this event gets bigger it's not necessarily getting better. A glorious day had brought out the crowds so even 1.5 hours before the start they were running out of parking spaces. There seemed to be a lack of organisation at the start with everyone trying to get into the start pen through one small gap which made it impossible to get into the proper time bands - I don't think I even saw any guide markers. Horribly congested for the first 3K and narrow tracks made passing people very difficult. The hill sorted them out and from then on it was far less congested. Oh, and some more portaloos please - that has to be one of the longest queues ever! Date of review: April 27, 2008
