In short: Poorly organised, not enough water on hot day In full: So, the course was challenging but the crowds were fantastic and gave us a loads of support on the course, but unfortunately that's where it ends. The start was delayed by 25 mins through bad organisation of getting cars into the showground, so we were stood in the heat waiting to start the race. The warm up was pointless as a) there was no space and b) it was too hot. The start itself was a nightmare, very cramped and then through a smaller gate which backed everyone up. The biggest problem though were the water stations. There weren't enough of them and the poor helpers couldn't keep with demand so we didn't get any water at the first water station. For the money they should of had bottles, particularly on such a hot day. The goodie bag area was very chaotic and there was nothing in them. So, badly organised and not very good value for money. This is my home half marathon so I really want to do it next year but they are going to have to listen to people and get it far better organised and put get the water issues sorted. In short: In short fantastic but challenging marathon In full: This was my second marathon and being in the Lake District I expected a few hills! The weather was amazing, the lake was like a mirror and the scenery was amazing. Crowds were fantastic and it was so well organised.
I did find it tough with a nice little hill at mile 7 but for every up there is a down. I would certainly recommend it to anyone. Well done Brathay! Date of review: May 23, 2012
