In short: Brilliant organisation and a nicely challenging course In full: First race of the year and fourth time back To Blackmore Vale. Everything about it is highly commended - tea and cakes, 100+ volunteer marshalls, plenty of drinks and an 800ft + elevated climb. Thanks and hope to be back next year. In short: Hot and hilly In full: A big thank you to everyone involved in making this year's event brilliant again. The last three miles were particularly tough given the hot weather but I still managed to finish 6 minutes quicker than last year. I really appreciated the marshall's at the finish urging me on by name.
Medal and t-shirt were great as were the celebratory tea and cake.
In short: Yet another hilly west country 10k In full: 3rd hilly race in as many weeks for me (Hanham and Frenchay preceeded). 1st time at Pensford and would recommend it. The hilly section around 5-7K was long and not quite as tough as I'd pictured (that doesn't mean it was easy). Great to kick back on the homeward descent. Rewarded with a medal and a pint of Marston's. Shame I didn't know about the kids fun run as I would have brought the family. I'll know for next year. Thanks to the organisers for a great job. In short: Heat and hills but at least it wasn't 26.2 miles In full: My first time at Frenchay and thoroughly enjoyed it (until the final gruelling hill). Excellent organisation. I wish I'd entered in advance and would have picked up the nice t-shirts bearing runners names. It was pretty warm towards midday. I was thankful nit be running London this year. Well done to the organisers for an excellent race. Date of review: April 17, 2011
In short: Now I understand why so many prefer it to Bath In full: My first time for FoD as this has clashed with Bath half in previous years. Great organisation and a reasonably quick course through the forest with some undulating sections. I'll be back for next year. Date of review: March 27, 2011
In short: Beautiful weather, fantastic scenery and sore legs In full: My first half matahon for 6 months and a great way to return. This is a brilliant race - great support and fantastic value. The scenery was glorious and the hills challenging (particulalrly the last one). On of the best races in the west country.
In short: Wet Wet Wet and Smelly Smelly Smelly In full: Great to be back after missing last year. Course was in reverse with a few changes but is an excellent end of season run. We had the Sheep Dip, Pig's Trough, the bale of hay, lots of muddy and cow pat filled fields.
Brilliant race that attracted lots of nw competitores from all over the UK. Date of review: November 14, 2010
In short: A hot one but still a great event In full: My first race for two months and slightly out of shape. A glorious day although the latter inclines were hard work. Brilliant organisation and a great 10 mile race. The finish was celebrated with a pint of Tribute. Thanks to organisers for another great day. See you again next year. Date of review: July 11, 2010
In short: Beauty and the Beast In full: This is the most beautiful course I've run over the past 5 years. The Beast is "that" hill. I found the last 3 miles mentally tough as there was still a fair degree of undualting road to contend with. 2 hour drive back didn't aid my recovery and my quads are still a bit stiff today. Great organisation and lots of friendly support. I'd like to walk this area and take it in properly one day. I hope to be back next year. Date of review: March 22, 2010
In short: Glorious running weather and new picturesque finish In full: The tough ten has become a regular feature of my winter training and weather conditions were perfect. The course has been changed slightly to accomodate the reconstruction of the pier which is currently fenced off. I completed the first ascent strongly but the second lap was a mental battle to keep running all the way up. The addition of the island loop at the end was great. 4 minutes quicker than last year by my watch although I'm still waiting for official results to be posted. Date of review: February 15, 2010
