In short: A last minute entry, but really enjoyed this super tough, but very friendly and well organised race In full: 2 laps with some brutal hills and tricky under foot but glorious views and a very friendly and welcoming race. Enjoyed signing the national anthem at the start and loads of support from crowd and other runners. A real gem Date of review: November 23, 2015
In short: Hadn't done this for a while - great to be back getting a PB In full: It had been 3 or 4 years since I last did this one. I came back with a PB and it was pretty well organised for such a big event. If you fancy a shot at a PB in a big event this is the one. Far more interesting than Bath half and much, much better organised. Date of review: October 5, 2010
In short: Best 3 days ever! In full: Great event, great organisation. Fantastic experience and met some bonkers athletes along the way. All in all an amazing 3 days. Organised really well by Votwo with very friendly and helpful staff Date of review: April 5, 2010
In short: My home race, but it's too pricey. Good goodie bag and PB for sure In full: Got a PB so can't be bad. Loads of great support and the family saw me at 4 locations due to the 2 lap course. Very crowded at the start, but its pretty flat so PB potential is good. 'Borat' man got the crowd going, but the shoulder thong seemed to hinder his speed!!! No doubt I'll be back next year. Great goodie bag, puts Bristol to shame. Save a bit for the end and make like a gazelle down Great Pultney Street - fab finish! Date of review: March 25, 2007
In short: Guys at work said you must do this race and they were right! In full: Take it easy up the hills to the 6 mile mark then let it go!!!!! What a race. The course was just amazing. This is what running is all about. Plenty of support and the mini mars from the Dad and his little lad at 18.5 miles got me up that horrible last hill. Little confused about where the finish line was, but what a fantastic race. Bring on London!!! Date of review: March 18, 2007
In short: The greatest race ever. Inspiring stuff In full: My second marathon. Having done a flat one in May this year it was time for the next challenge. Off road and hilly! I trained hard which paid off over those last 8 miles which are so tough. The sight of the Seven Sisters and the climb to Beachy Head is frightening stuff, but worth all the pain. This is an event that should be on everyones top 10 things to do. The scenery is fantastic. The other runners were great and the marshalls kept you going when all you wanted to do was stop. If you love running, then DO THIS RACE! Time of 4hrs 2 mins so i'll be back next year for a sub 4hr!!!! Date of review: October 29, 2006
In short: Fourth time I've done this race and i thought the course change may make life easier with 10000 runners, but it didn't In full: Too tight around the city for the first 3 miles meant my times were all over the place and i'd really trained hard to tackle my PB. The sun came out on the Portway which was tough and the extended trip to 8.5 miles meant a long drag of a climb before the turn for home. Suffered badly from 10 miles mainly due to the intense sun. Got over the finish line and felt v shaky on my legs. No sign of a goody bag until I'd staggered 50 metres further on. To my surprise no mars bar, just flyers and an energy drink - rip off.
Please, please, please bring back the old course and start back at Queens Square. I used to love this race, but now i'm not so sure. With Bath 2007 charging an astonishing £28.50, its time to try the Forest of Dean. The T-shirt is almost exactly the same as 2005. Change the desidn and add some much needed colour to it!!!
Still managed to knock 5 mins off my PB. 1hr 36mins Date of review: September 20, 2006
