In short: Pleasant race In full: Thanks to Wilmslow for organising a nice race - should be a fast course as it's pretty much flat but it was long by about a quarter to a third of a mile. Hopefully fixed for next year! Date of review: August 10, 2008
In short: Another winner! In full: This isn't just a race - it's a Lakeland Trails race! Another superb all-round day out in Cumbria. The changes to the course this year made it an even better day out - hopefully the buzzards will continue to do their job for next year!
So busy looking at the views from the top of the Garburn Road, from the Coniston Fells to Great Gable, I nearly collided with Tarzan!
Fabulous day for the supporters too, with so much to get involved with - I thought the finish area was the biggest and best yet.
Nice casserole from Wilf's too (provided with the entry fee) - and some REAL BEER :-) - what more can I say? Faultless!
In short: A Revived Classic! In full: If you want to run a great marathon, come to Brathay in May (assuming they're nice enough to put it on again next year!).
THis should be on every runner's to-do list (leaving aside the UK rankings chasers) as it is truly one of the best-organised and most fulfilling races around.
I cannot fault anything at all, from the accommodation at Brathay which was superb, to the organisation, the weather, the great and supportive marshalling in HUGE numbers and the course which never lacks interest all the way round, even in the tough roller-coaster of the four miles to Bowness.
Don't be put off by the hills - there are no monsters and this race is so much more than a time-trial.
Thank you to Brathay and all the sponsor and volunteers for putting on a special event - and most of all congratulations to those brave 10-in-10 marathoners who ran the same course on 10 consecutive days! Date of review: May 19, 2008
In short: Triffic Trail In full: Another excellent event. The course is challenging but still allows fast running if you're not too knackered :-) Attention to detail in every aspect makes these races special and it is amazing how everyone is catered for.
The Oddbins man should have brought more beer with him! Date of review: April 23, 2008
In short: Excellent half marathon In full: Blimey some people like a moan don't they? It's a big race on a rural course - get over it. Wear a watch and use it to record your time if you're off the front! Time limits are only because the roads can't stay closed forever.
Anyway, back to the race: well-organised, fast and pretty flat course, GREAT support all round, NO cars and excellent marshalling. I can't think of anything to complain about! A traffic-free road race is a rarity and will become rarer as costs go up, but it's a delight. Date of review: March 31, 2008
In short: Excellent: well organised, friendly, interesting undulating course In full: No need to make any allowances for the first-time running of this event: it was excellent by any standards. I spent half the race out of sight of the leader but there were marshalls (very encouraging thank you!) everywhere you needed them. I enjoyed the course - and some nice touches including a thoughtful goody bag and prize. Many thanks and hope to see you again for the second event next year! Date of review: February 24, 2008
In short: Well worth turning out for In full: Extra marks for Mr Porter's comedy announcements and for having a pub at the finish! Not really "multi-terrain" but none the worse for it! Date of review: January 27, 2008
