In short: Great Race again. Looking forward to next year - Return of the Canine? In full: Lovely event. Enthusiastic emails and very generous goodie bag (I even got a lucky dip prize). The most unsubtle t-shirt I've ever had, but I'll definitley be wearing it when it gets warmer! Nice and flat, plus they managed to turn the wind machine off this year, so I knocked 3 mins off last time. Only thing that maybe could be looked at is that the pavement for the last km is quite narrow and the road isn't closed. So if you're in the main pack and a bit tired, but trying to push to the finish, you need to check for traffic and hop up and down the pavement a bit to overtake. Not a major gripe tho', by any means.
In short: Brilliant experience. Maybe a bit tough for a first-timer, but the atmosphere was great. In full: Always said 'Never' - until RL decided to put a marathon on in town...so I had no excuse - no travel, no ballot, just turn up on the day!
Hardest race I've ever done (obviously) but heartened to see that some 'proper' runners thought it was a bit tough - so that made me feel better.
It's all been said about the delayed start - couldn't be helped, but just needed a bit more communication to the pens.
As with previous comments - tunnel exit was amazing, water stations were very supportive, finish line folk were lovely and the marshall who helped me out when I stopped was really kind.
Spectator support on both sides of the water was great (wouldn't have expected anything less!), especially all the High-5-ing kids and the finish along the Strand.
OK - so maybe I have rose-tinted spectacles, but it was a great experience for me. Plus you have the fact that there's a real personal commitment by RL to make this work, and you do feel that any negative feedback is being actively looked at with a view to improving in 2012.
I should really flag NO to the Do It Again question... but never say 'never again' (just not next year!) Date of review: October 31, 2011
In short: No midday sun, but a very enjoyable Mad Dog run! In full: Well set up for an inaugural race, with chip timing & texted results. Enthusiastic letters and emails in the run-up were a nice touch - and Marshalls were especially encouraging. Route was a mix of roads/pavements with some traffic but perfectly safe if you keep an eye out and go round people sensibly. Traditional Southport 'breeze' made first half hard work - but good prep for the last 3M of the L'pool Half, no doubt! Date of review: February 6, 2011
