In short: Great day In full: Second GNR. Much better organised than last year, especially at the start. Achieved a PB and got back to Newcastle on the Metro before the rain and with no delays. The Red Arrows at the start and the finish were fantastic. Long way to travel from Cambridge though - time to try something else next year. Date of review: October 2, 2006

In short: My first great north run and an event I'll always remember. In full: This is the first time I have run over ten miles and I did find it a bit hard going towards the end - finished just outside 2 hours. There were a lot of walkers to avoid during the early stages and I found the wait at the start quite long - good to see the ashes though. Aiming to get under 2 hours next year, but must remember to take a bin liner or space blanket to the start to keep warm, drink loads in case it as hot again and start a little further forward to avoid the walkers.
On the whole a great day, but very sad to hear afterwards about the four who had died. I hope the chap I saw sitting at the roadside within the last 800m made it to the finish. Date of review: September 21, 2005
