In short: Fantastic In full: Well done to the organisers, very slick, and what a great day we had. I got a PB too. This is my regular training course, and yes there are a few undulations but nothing too major. Liked the milkshake at the finish, perfect protein/carb recovery drink. Great to see Mick and Phil as well. Inspirational. Date of review: March 21, 2012

In short: Hard race but worth the effort In full: This was my first 100 miler, and I just managed to finish 30 minutes inside the 40hr cut off. Ideal for those who like to break up their running with long climbs and walk breaks. Ability to use a map and compass and confidence in mountain terrain required in case you get off track, but mostly just following the detailed roadbook instructions gets you round. Well worth practising as much of the course in advance as possible, will save valuable time at night etc. Feet likely to be trashed by constant wet and rough rocky trails-mine were. A classic. In short: Excellent, would be a great first ultra In full: Great value and organisation, guidance notes generally very good but in a few tricky places could be improved: The Golf Course, also the bit before the Old Black Bank (steps 4 and 5 on map 14, there are several small paths off to the left up various banks), also map 16, step 10, there is no way it is 100m to the gate, more like 500m. I'm not complaining though! Congratulations to the organisers. Date of review: May 1, 2010

In short: Excellent muddy slippery race, great food along the way In full: Walkers and runners do both the 16 and 26 mile versions of this race. The route is well marked with bits of tape, although there was one filed at 8.7 miles which need some tape in the middle since it was initially impossible to see which direction to head for. Some of the tracks are seriously slippery with squelchy wet clay. Wear trail or fell shoes for this, road shoes would be a pain. Expect wet feet from near the beginning. Good fun, and lovely food, especially the flapjacks. Date of review: February 27, 2010

In short: An absolute classic, in its 47th year In full: Very challenging 62 mile run/walk over Yorkshire Dales, 11000 ft of ascent, very boggy, atmosphere and organisation fantastic, well worth doing Date of review: January 9, 2010

In short: Nice course, generally flat, incline last mile In full: I did the full marathon course this year, which I thought was excellent and quite quick. If I have a few very minor niggles they would be: 1) Make it clearer in the race description at which water stations gels will be available. 2) Why give the caffeine-containing gels at 22 miles, since caffeine takes up to an hour to have full effect. Give them at 15 miles next time and the ordinary ones at 22. 3) Loads of marshals, who all did their job well, but some could have been a bit more encouraging (many thanks to those who were). Just minor points, overall this is an excellent course and race, hope to be back next year. Date of review: October 11, 2009

In short: Good race. Had a bit of trouble finding the athletics stadium, lots of roadworks after M1 jnc 13 confused me. Excellent organisation and plenty of parking. I hope to do this next year. The "hills" referred to in going over a footbridge over an A road In full: This was my first 10k, usually do half mara and mara, but thoroughly enjoyed this. Date of review: September 13, 2009

In short: Well organised, but a banana would have been nice In full: This race was really well organised and marshalled as ever, but something to eat at the finish (without having to queue and pay) would have made it even better, and certainly better value for money. Also the car park was slow to get in to, and difficult to get out of because of the mud. I'll be back though, this is a fast course. Date of review: December 10, 2007

In short: Some undulations but quite fast In full: I live in Leicester and was pleasantly surprised by the scenery on the course, I saw areas I've never been near before. There were certainly a few slopes but nothing too bad really. Organisation and marashalling were good, and finishing at Victoria park was good. I was less than a minute outside my recent PB from Notingham without much training in between so I would say this course is quite fast despite the few inclines. My chip timing and the mileage were bang on with my Garmin. I'll be back. Date of review: October 15, 2007
