In short: Fantastic views over downs... very hilly In full: This was my first attempt at the Downland, and I must admit it was surprisingly tough. I would recommend anyone to go and give this event a go, but it is no frills, minimal water points, so you must carry a camel pack or something similar and you navigate via a route description, so be warned! The views over the downs are stunning, all in all a tougn day when you add on 28 degree heat... but I will be back next year to better my time! Date of review: July 27, 2008

In short: Well organised challenging marathon In full: Do not be put off by the £30 price tag. For this you are transported to the race start line and you run back to the finish, recieve a nice salomon running t shirt, running socks, medal and a few other goodies in the bag. 7 check points, so pleanty of water, and gels and electrolyte provided at 2 of them. Some of the hills are quite tough all doable. This is my second year at the event and I had a great day. I would reccommend this event to anybody. Date of review: June 14, 2008

In short: OK race to finish of the racing year In full: The event organisation was excellent and the marshalls were very supportive. Not a scenic course, but that was too be exepcted. If you are looking for something to finish of the season, then go for it. It is quite a fast course as well, so perhaps some PB potential there. Date of review: December 3, 2007

In short: Great Race and organisation In full: This was my first South Downs and I loved the race. Great T shirts and very welcome recovery drinks at the end. My only recommendation would be to include mile markers. Thankfully I had a GPS so this was not a major concern, but I can imagine it could be frustrating without.
All in all I will be back next year, had a fantastic day. Thanks to the organisers. Date of review: June 16, 2007

In short: Well organised a repsectable race In full: The event was pretty well organised, but didn't really have anything wow about it. It is a great race for new runners and setting a PB. I knocked over 9 minutes off mine coming in at 1.28, v chuffed! I would run one this again. Date of review: February 11, 2007

In short: Lack of spectators made up for by the views In full: This was my first marathon, and the Loch Ness did not disappoint. The views were stunning, the last 6 miles however were a struggle with limited support, but all the staff at the stations were very supportive. Despite the rain and small crowds, I had a great time, and I would definitely sign up for the event again. A real experience! Date of review: October 3, 2006
