In short: Fun race, tough course, hot! In full: Overall this was a good race to run. A surprisingly tough course with plenty of hills and undulations. Lots of marshalls and water stations which was a great help on a warm day! Could have done with more toilets at the start. One nice touch at the end were the ice lollies they were giving out at the finish. Very refreshing! Date of review: June 15, 2009
In short: A few organisational hiccups at the start but overall a good and challenging race to run in. In full: Slightly chaotic organisation at the start. It was touch and go getting to the start on time. I was lucky to get my bag on the truck just before they were closing. Others might not have been so fortunate. Could have done with more toilets at the start (although that's not uncommon for an event that size!). These probably contributed to the late start-time.
Marshals were very good and the support along the route was very uplifting. Course was surprisingly challenging and I got to see some quite nice parts of Birmingham I'd never seen before. Miles 8 to 11 were hard work. Finish was great and there was a fun atmosphere throughout. Date of review: October 27, 2008
In short: A proper City race with good atmosphere and nice scenery. In full: I was up at 5.00 in the morning to get there from London so I was determined to enjoy this one. I hadn't received a race pack prior to the race but was pleased that the organisers were able to sort this out on the day.
I didn't know Bristol that well but I really enjoyed the course. I guess a lot of people might have been lulled into a false sense of security by the flatness of the first 8 miles. The collection of small uphill stretches near the finish combined with the heat seemed to be finishing off a lot of runners. There was also a lot of support along the route which really helped on a deceptively hot day.
I got round in just over 2 hours. I wanted to go under 2 hours but found the last couple of miles a bit of a struggle. Really enjoyed the event and would recommend it to the uninitiated.
In short: Good Fun Race! In full: Half marathon was good fun, with plenty of parkland scenery. Well-organised and welcoming. I did feel sorry for the marathon runners at the halfway point! Some of them were looking distinctly knackered as I passed the HM finish! Date of review: September 20, 2007
In short: Nice Atmosphere but slight log-jams in places In full: This the 3rd time I've run this race. The atmosphere and the London Scenery are great. Running along Picadilly and bumping into one of the "Cheeky Girls" at the end were particular highlights. We were stuck near the back and this presented problems getting past people who were less sprightly than ourselves (there were several log-jam points along the route. Medal was better than previous years which my girlfriend really liked! One possible improvement for next year would be timing chips. My friends all agreed that it would have been nice know the exact times we ran rather than estimate. The cost of entry is quite high, so surely chips could be introduced. Overall a good fun day though. Date of review: July 3, 2007
In short: A good race with a few rough edges. In full: Start and finish a bit haphazard. Good course although it would have been nice if we could have been in the centre a bit more. Friendly support all round. I'd been suffering with a hamstring injury up to a week before, so it was a good course for running within myself. Fun event in a nice City. Date of review: March 30, 2007
In short: Fun and challenging course. In full: Tougher than average course for a 10k. Plenty of uphill sections. Nice spots along route. Good fun race. Organisation a little bit dodge. Start was disorganised (the lap of the stadium caused a few problems as elite runners tried to lap those who hadn't started. Traffic flow seemed to be confusing around course (sometimes cars were passing and cutting up runners, other times they were stopping). Enjoyed the run though. Date of review: February 25, 2007
