In short: pb potential marathon, but made more challenging by strong winds. In full: This was the first time I had run the Edinburgh marathon, and was tempted by the pb potential of a fast course. It was well organised at the start, with lots of toilets available. The course itself was very scenic and I liked the turn around point of the run through the stately home. Crowd support was sparse at many points, but the locals were very friendly. Unfortunately it was an energy sapping windy day which knocked me off getting a pb. The finish village was well organised, and it was quick to get my bag back. Unfortunately, there was a long walk of 20 minutes to get to the shuttle bus at the end of the race on tired legs. Overall, thought this was a good marathon and would do it again.
In short: Fantastic scenery, varied terrain and a fantastic 14k run. In full: This was my first orienteering race and was a great experience.. My friends and I decided to do this as a team, which turned out to be a good idea. The club were very helpful and explained what the race would entail. We treated this as a point to point run in fantastic scenery and were under no illusions of being serious competitors. The ability to map read is a definite bonus, but we were never under any threat of getting lost. Would do this one again! Date of review: June 26, 2011
