In short: Flatness is not all its cracked up to be
In full: Don't get me wrong, this is a really well organised event and I have enjoyed other events that these people have organised at Morton Morrell. Understandably the organisers sell this one on the basis that a flat course has more PB potential. However, having completed it I have to say that I found the flat, bleak course with four repetitious laps and lots of out-and-back sections quite unmotivating. I don't know whether that was why I did not achieve a PB, perhaps I am making excuses, but I feel that with nicer scenary, some gentle ups and rewarding downs I might have done better.

In short: Gruelling but friendly
In full: I did the half. The hills would have been tough, but I was prepared for that, but the mud just made it very slow as you had no choice in places but to pick your way through. At the end there were two enormous hills, one of which consisted entirely of mud. It made me yearn for the gentle hills of Warwickshire.
However, the adversity brought runners together and made for a very friendly event. I have never chatted so much to fellow runners (this was partly because we were walking so much).
The organisation was superb.
