In short: Flat course, with a few tight corners In full: Whilst the course was flat and therefore good for PB potential, there were some tight corners. Some scenic points (Quays, Old Traford), but a lot of the route was not that scenic, especially running through car parks. Losing GPS signal going through Old Trafford may have been why my Garmin measured the route slightly short.
My main complaint would be the lack of water immediately at the finish. A queue was already forming at the "shop" where the water and goody bags were being handed out when I got there having run a respectable time of just under 52 mins. The queue by the time I came out was huge, hope no one was desperate for a drink!
The other gripe is the alleged £100 voucher for Club La Santa. The discounts referred to do not make it clear what the £100 voucher is for and the discounts available are very restricted - tough luck if you are not marathon training, which given this was a 5/10k event possibly rules a number of competitors out. In short: Relaxed and non-competitive, great for first-timers In full: Entered this race to accompany a friend who ultimately couldn't make it, but still worth while turning up. A few small hills to deal with, but a good course, all on tarmac (although my Garmin measured it 0.1 miles short). Adequate marshalling, only area that needs improving in this respect is at the water station/turn around point, runners were coming in and going out on both sides of the road. Couple of km markers may have been missing (or maybe I just didn't see them). Criticisms aside (and all minor given the size of the event), for £15 you get chip timing, t-shirt and a decent goody bag. Atmosphere was friendly and non-intimidating. I've done a number of 10k runs and this is definitely one to have a go at if you are a first-timer or a seasoned runner. Date of review: February 12, 2011
In short: Few small hills, PB potential In full: Undulating course. There is a steep hill near the end but it's not long, so not that bad. Definate PB potential. Been trying to get my PB down for ages at this distance and managed to take almost 3 minutes off! Date of review: September 21, 2008
In short: Tough hills, but rewarding. Well organised & nice l/s t-shirt In full: Having seen the race profile I knew this would be tough over the first half of the race. However, knowing this meant there were no surprises and the downhill sections made up for some of the uphill ones! Excellent marshalling, all seemed enthusiastic and cheered runners on. A few spectators along the way too. Long sleeved t-shirt is a nice touch. Date of review: August 31, 2008
In short: PB Potential & well organised - trophy at the end instead of a medal was a nice touch In full: Wasn't sure whether to run this one as only got married a week ago and the last week has been spent over indulging and not much training. Had planned to use this as a training run, but started off well so decided to keep it going and took 2:31 off my PB! A good course (even though it measured slightly long - 10.26 miles - on the garmin)and well organised. Route clearly marked and none of the hills were unmangeable. The glass trophy at the end was a nice touch, much preferred to a medal and made the entry fee of £12 good value. Date of review: August 10, 2008
In short: Definitely undulating NOT flat, reasonably well organise In full: It was very hot today, which made everything that little bit harder. I didn't know the course but given the description on Runners World (flat/undulating) wasn't too concerned until I started the climb at 2.5km - it just seemed to go on and on. I did find this run difficult and don't think this would have suited soemone on their first 10k. A bit more information about the nature of the course would be helpful, otherwise organisation was good and course was very well marshalled. Date of review: July 27, 2008
In short: Waste of time! In full: Where do I start? Course was short by about 1.5 km, entry was £13 and only a medal at the end, where was the goody bag? Race started late and couldn't hear any of the announcemnts at the start. Unclear course map, which was useless anyway as was not followed. Not clear at finish how many times you needed to go round the track, was it once, twice, three times? Not that it made the distance up to 10k anyway so guess it didn't matter in the end. Overall, very disapponted and will not be doing this one again. Date of review: May 25, 2008
In short: Good race but let down by chip time In full: Organisation of this race was very good. Was concerned at the start that it woud not be clear where the route went but once out on the course it was very clear. Main concern is with the chip timings. This appears to be the third year where this has been an issue. Personally I would rather pay a lower entry fee and rely on my watch time. If chip timimg is used it should record your individual time from start line to finish line otherwise what are we paying for? Date of review: June 29, 2007
In short: Good PB Potential on a flat course In full: Overall well organised and a quick course - knocked 34 seconds off my time from last year. However, I reached 2km marker in 9:15 which just isn't possible when I run around 5 mins + per km during a race. The 3km marker was then about a further 6 mins away. I'm guessing the marker placement was out somewhere. Didn't stop a PB but made me unsure of my pace along the way. Date of review: June 29, 2007
