In short: Excellent race In full: First time I've done the Badger, and it was great. See it as a tour through lovely countryside, and you wont go wrong.
Organisation was spot on. Plenty of water stations, with gels and jelly babies too.
Yes its hilly, but that gives you loads of good views. Date of review: September 6, 2010

In short: Tough it is In full: Well I knew what to expect, and wasn't let down.
Must first say a big thank you to the marshalls. It was a horrible day to be standing out there like they were, so thumbs up.
Very much a low key event, certainly compared to big city marathon, but to me, thats part of the attraction. Was fantastic to be up on the Down with almost no one else around .I felt the weather added something else to the event. Certainly meant we had the Downs to ourselves.
Good amount of water station, though don't expect too many mile markers. They did seem to have them at significant parts of the course though.
Didn't seem to be much going on when I finished, though perhaps the weather and my slow time didn't help.
I was just happy to get back to my car and get the heaters on :) Date of review: May 4, 2010

In short: A great day in the sun! In full: Well its been a long time coming, but I would like to add my thanks and congratulation to the organisers of this, the first Brighton Marathon. I had a fantastic time, dispite a rather slowish time, and still aching legs!
It did look like there could have been more toilets. This is always a comment for most races. Though I did wonder if having one block of lots of toilets would have been better than the clusters of portaloos they did provide.
The route was nice mix of city and countryside. Think I probably found the first half more interesting than the second. There were quite a few loops, as people have said, though it depends how you look at it. Yes, it could be dull, but then it did give you the chance to spot friends, celebs, etc, which you don't normally get if your running in a straight line. The power station part was a challenge, but then we are talking about 19-21 miles. I did enjoy the DJ. I suspect this part of the route may become a legendary part of the race. It did provide a moment of quiet, and made me appreciate the fantastic crowd support.
Brighton (and Hove), should be proud at the way they supported us runners. Date of review: April 21, 2010

2010 Sussex Beacon Half Marathon

In short: Not a bad run, but needs a rethink In full: I can only echo what some of the others have said about the race.
Had always been a bit of a favourite for me, but I was very disappointed.
No queue for me to finish, but once over the line it was chaos. Not very good, when all I wanted to do was get changed into warm dry clothes.
The non existant staff at the bag drop post race was shocking. Maderia Drive is open to anyone, so there was no security at all. Plus I did not appreciate having to search for my bag in conditions like yesterday.
Overall, I appreciate that Sussex Beacon are trying to raise as much as possible for the valuable work that they do, but they need to remember that us runners need looking after better than yesterday.
I can't help feeling this race has got too big.

In short: A reasonable run out on Sunday morning In full: Always quite quick, though does depend on the wind. Due to the turn rounds, you do get to see the leaders twice, which is unusual in my case, lol.
I'm just disapointed with some aspects of the organisation, especially as its run by an athletics club. Water stations seemed a bit of an afterthough, and there was no drink at the end. Date of review: November 15, 2009

In short: A happy hilly half In full: Tough, but good fun too. Such a friendly atmosphere too, the patriotic sing along at the start, and the fry up at the end.

In short: A great race In full: This was such an amazing day. Yes, a funny time of year to run a marathon and I was never quite sure what the weather was going to do.
But, it was so friendly and such a great occasion. Bag pipes at the start, a couple of bands along the way. Great marshalls, including some cheery encouragements from local squaddies!

In short: Nothing flat about this one! In full: But its good fun anyway.
Its not a race about speed, more enjoying yourself. Big hills, and lots of mud, but a great friendly race.
The beer at the end was lovely, so can I congratulate TWH for supporting a local brewery.
One suggestion for next year. Give out the T shirts at the end of the race. Then I wont have to take it back to my car. Date of review: September 15, 2008

In short: Off road and in the trees In full: A very entertaining run. Track start and finish, and Tilgate Forest in between.
Its more or less completely off road, mostly in forest tracks which can be a bit uneven at times.
Its fairly hilly too, though the hills are out of the way by half way.
But there always something of interest while you run.
Not sure about PB potential, as there were a few bottle necks early on, plus the narrow tracks can make it difficult to pass people.

In short: A nice sunday morning run In full: A very decent run, all off road and away from the traffic.
Was perhaps a little straight for my liking, but then perhaps that increases its PB potential.
Was a little surprised by just the one water station, for a race that starts at 11am in July. Though with the rain, they got away with it.
Nice to be actually presented with a medal, and a hand shake from the local top bod. Date of review: July 6, 2008
