In short: hilly but rewarding figure of eight around a lovely part of the Chilterns In full: Excellent organisation and marshalling - thanks so much to the organisers.
A lovely course with two challenging hills run over a figure of eight. The village and the country lanes are lovely and there is little/no traffic so a great race.
Nice vibe at the start and fab countryside for an outing afterwards. Date of review: May 16, 2010

In short: fun enough but this big city marathon needs to up its game In full: A very frustrating race. Some great organisation and some very poor.
On the plus side the volunteers, water and sports drink were fantastic.
On the downside, the course was very crowded - even in the front of the field.
The pen system was a joke - the marshalls lifted the tape before the start and it took 4 miles to be able to establish any sort of rhythm due to overcrowding and painfully slow running.
The numbers on the mile numbers need to be *much* bigger so they are visible.
And the course is pretty dreary.
Nonetheless well done to the all the people who volunteered and the great supporters.
Organisers - learn a few tips from New York...like wave starts to ease the congestion in our narrow streets. Date of review: April 25, 2010

In short: a very well-organised race and a great route In full: All this race at the edge of the Chilterns needs is a sunny day and a blue sky to make it a stand-out fixture on the racing calendar - today it had both.
Four hills spread the crowds out and if you can get through the first two the rest is a breeze.
Excellent marshalling kept the nutty drivers at bay and good crowds for support.
Top marks to the Rotary Club who organise this! Date of review: March 7, 2010

In short: undulating opportunity to tune up for longder spring races In full: Basically a cut and paste mix-up of the St Albans Half minus the run through Verulamium.
Nice not to run the lanes in 30 degree+ heat which is a feature of its longer distance cousin each summer.
A clubby, fast(ish) field but the new route races a bit slower than the old flat course run on the Hatfield side of town.
A couple of sharp hills to sort the wheat from the chaff in the last few miles. Date of review: January 24, 2010

In short: lovely race in a lovely place - great atmosphere In full: Really enjoyed this - the two loops through the town square + the start and finish line arrangements make the crowd part of the course. The family had a great time too. Well done to the organisers. Date of review: December 28, 2009

In short: hot undulating and a great event for the family In full: They really have made this into a great family running event with a 1.5m fun run 5k etc which adds massively to the atmosphere.
The organisers have upped their game massively from previous years and taken on board the feedback from last yer with loads of water stops and good funnelling at the end.
Looking forward to next year already!

In short: Tough but a great route through lovely countryside - it would be boring if it was too easy! In full: I love this race and the organisation gets better each year...well done to the Rotary club for putting it together.
It is a toughie--my lack of training and extra weight made every hill a struggle--but a picturesque run on a lovely spring day. Date of review: March 1, 2009

In short: Excellent-good organisation this year and a lovely course In full: Great course as ever. Thanks to the marshalls and police on a very miserable day. The organisation has improved with the size of the race following feedback from past years, so well done. Date of review: March 4, 2007

In short: A great course--a couple of hills but nothing drastic and a great field In full: The only gripe is the chip timing which was a bit rubbish. They somehow managed to add about 1min to my time, well at odds with my stopwatch (which I didn't even manage to stop on time at the end!).
