In short: Great organisation, great venue, fast course
In full: The main challenge is getting a place as the race sells out very very quickly. Facilities (at York racecourse) and organisation are excellent. The route itself is out and back with a loop, flat but fairly dull and with sparse support. But, if you want a good test after the holiday season and the opportunity of a PB then the Brass Monkey is the perfect excuse to brave the cold weather.

In short: As good as always
In full: Good organisation, great marshalling, good local support and perfect conditions too. A slightly modified course from 2008 but still offering a nice mix of roads, tracks, town and countryside to keep it interesting. Thanks to the Amblers for a great day.

In short: A well organised 10.1 mile run
In full: A small field (150 finishers) but would expect it to grow in the future. The race had a local feel to it and was well organised. The final "mile" certainly seemed a long one by both GPS and the time it took!

In short: Excellent organisation from start to finish
In full: Very well organised. A smooth start helped by three starting pens. Two tough climbs each lasting a mile in the first half but thereafter downhill or flat save for the last few hundred metres. Abundance of well organised feeding stations (water, gatorade, sponges). Great start/finish in the town centre. And perfect weather too!

In short: Candidate for the "worst start" award?
In full: A really chaotic start! This was not helped that in order to reach the start runners approached from the front rather than the back and, as the start area was not wide, I guess many found themselves unable to push towards the back and consequently started too far forward. The announcements were inaudible except for the 3-2-1 and the start line wasn't too obvious. But after the first minute of people tripping and bumping it did open up quickly.

Thereafter a flat unremarkable course with a few twists and turns and a reasonable number of supporters considering the weather. And, whilst the race was short the weather had noticeably improved by the end with the wind dropping and the appearance of sun rather than the expected snow.

Whilst I've no doubt that the course was the advertised 5 miles the GPS users I asked had it in the 5.35 - 5.45 range

Suggestions for next time? a better start with a start line and with the runners walked forward to it.

In short: Great conditions, great marshalling, great support and a good course
In full: I prefered this to the previous course as the run in was not so lonely. The stadium start/finish is always fantastic and this time we were also "treated" to lap of Tilsley park before reaching the track. The underpass near 24m was a surprising and interesting addition! Fantastic support (pom poms and all) and an abundance of marshalls helped no end. One minor comment: it would be nice if sports drinks were offered at the water stations.
