In short: Serious and fun runners catered for In full: Well trodden fast flat Victoria Park 10K course, started off by Sir Ian McKellen sporting a Panama hat, straight-friendly...what's not to like? Date of review: September 18, 2012

In short: Functional In full: This race is part of our club champ.s and I probably wouldn't do it if it were not. It is flat but quite twisty with much stepping on-and-off-pavements. There is a basic feel to the arrangements - a whistle started us off, without even a "ready" let alone any "set", and it must be one of the last road races still to be without chip timing. On the plus-side: water and a banana is plenty after a five miler. Oh, and the weather was positively mild this year! Date of review: December 4, 2011

In short: Great course, amateurish organisation In full: Multiple different timings in different sources of info about the race beforehand made for confusion. With 2 minutes to go a lot of us didn't know where the start was (for 5k and 10k race)! Insufficinet marshalling and directions made it easy to cut corners - I ran 4.87k. If the organisers learn some lessons this should be a very attractive race - the course is flat and pretty. Date of review: September 11, 2010

In short: Fab pre-marathon pacey long run In full: Laid back villagey feel. The four laps make for bite-sized chunks. Lovely ladies behind the clubhouse tea-bar. One or two marshals lost to chatting after lap 1, but mostly beautifully organised Date of review: March 10, 2008

In short: Lovely fast course In full: Brings tiny Wokingham to a stand-still. Picturesque flat course on closed roads. Good for both beginners and serious runners after a PB. Date of review: February 10, 2008

In short: An improved flat course In full: They changed the direction of the laps this year, and the start is better. It's always fun to finish with a lep on the track. Some very slippery bits. This is not a beautiful course, but it's flat and functional in spite of a few sharp bends. Date of review: December 9, 2007

In short: Don't tell anyone about this lovely little race In full: In an undiscovered corner of the Lea Valley Park this race takes place largely on tow path and is flat apart from a couple of turns over bridges. A very small field, so don't tell anyone and it'll stay that way! Date of review: July 8, 2007

In short: Lovely country course for a warm, hilly, non-PB run In full: Liked the improved course. It must be the country, 'cause even the Police help with road restrictions. Super downhill last mile through the city, and friendly marshalls remembering it's good to encourage the field. Nice lolly after - dip it in the water to cover taste of hosepipe therein! Found the Red Bull, was given two, and drove home on a high... (I wouldn't actually suggest a beginner did a half-M but I know what you mean, and it seems chirlish not to put "yes" for all-time-fave but am unsure how many all time faves one can accrue) Date of review: June 10, 2007

In short: Very flat course around Eton College's nifty little boating lake that'll be in action come 2012 In full: This is an excellent last race before FLM which will get more popular if it keeps this venue and date. There were perfect conditions this year which always does wonders for how you feel about a race. A couple of organisational oddities: racing numbers on a bit of card, and initial results on the day suggested they hadn't started the clock from 00:00:00, perhaps part of it being in only its second year. Lots of car parking and toilets, though, and all very conveniently arranged at this dedicated sports venue on private land. Date of review: April 8, 2007

2007 London Heathside 5

In short: The T-shirt of the season In full: Good organisation, including quick posting of results at londonheathside.org. It's practically all hill though, so great practice for how to run up and down hills, and how to pace yourself over the five miles. Good timing in the FLM training programme for a bit of a change from the long Sunday run. Date of review: March 4, 2007
