In short: The Greatest South Run
In full: A little gem. well organised, unpretentious, fast and flat. Anyone who spent ages trying to get out of Gosport after the race might like to join my campaigne to re-open the railway line (tongue in cheek).

In short: It's a tough one right enough
In full: A couple of years ago I had a moan about the loop which led back to the foot of the hill towards the end of the course which was a destroyer. This time the loop was around the 5 mile mark. Thanks to the organisors for listening and for the brilliant marshals and drink station voluntees whose vocal support made up for the complete lack of public support. I'll be back.

In short: Great potential, how about appointing a marathon runner to the oganising committee next year
In full: Preston Park was a good choice of start venue but the toilets were few and the starting pens were not clearly marked and un-policed. The course was far too narrow in parts and the un-cordoned off bit on the prom was just dangerous. Doling out Gatorade in huge bottles is wasteful. Next year pour small amounts into paper cups and hand them out at regular intervals. They are of more use in the earlier miles - the topless bottles at 23 miles spoke volumes about the organisors experience. How about a few bands? A few less boring out and back loops? A stagered start? Moaning apart, it has got tremendous potential and could become a top event, the crowd support was fantastic. I think it must already have claimed a few records; the highest percentage of first time marathoners, the lowest percentage of sub 3 hour finishers and the highest percentage of pre-race drop-outs.

In short: Lee-on-Solent Half Marathon
In full: The start was chaotic. Car parking was in short supply and few people were sure of the way to the start which was consequently delayed. Once away we were soon funelled onto a narrow footpath causing trips, stumbles and curses. Apart from that the marshalling was great, the course was flat if a little dull and exposed and the finish was west to east which is always good on the south coast.
Might it be possible to start and finish on the airfield in future? Ample car parking, huge wide roads/runways, everyone running at their own pace from the off.

In short: The hot weather and the snakes and ladderesque loop made it an absolute killer!
In full: Arrows pointing to the start would have been handy but we muddled through. The course was much more challenging this year owing to "police concerns" which made it more scenic but the loop 3/4s of the way up the hill to Ryde which took us back to the foot of the hill in Brading was a destroyer. Might I suggest putting the loop somewhwere else next year, anywhere but where it was please. The marshalls and the drink and sponge station staff were brilliant, the local support non-existant
