In short: Good race but could do better In full: Not raced this for 4 years and had forgotten how undulating the course was but it is very scenic and we had perfect weather this year.
However the start and finish areas are cramped and messy. I didn't like the start in the car park with people still filtering in ahead of me from the side as the race started.
The finish area was a complete dog's breakfast and apart from being handed a plastic bag had to hunt down everything else including drinks and the cased medals, which I stumbled across purely by chance in a box at the side.
Fortunately I did not use the baggage facility but was curious as to the long queue forming at the side of the clubhouse.
Marshalls were friendly enough but could have offered more encouragement.
Overall not bad but room for improvement. Date of review: January 19, 2014
In short: Great little race In full: Challenging multi-terrain course but an interesting, scenic route. Very well organised event, generous goody bag and good facilities at race HQ.Pure radio broadcast helped createa good atmosphere. Not a PB race but that added to the enjoyment. Will be back. In short: Better than ever In full: Superbly organised race, friendly marshalls and a great atmosphere. Definately one of my favourite races. The long sleeve , high viz technical top I received is worth the entry fee alone. Date of review: December 13, 2011
In short: A fantastic experience In full: A wonderful race. Well organised with friendly, encouraging marshalls. Other races take note ! Extremely generous souvenir, goody bag, food and drink at the finish. Well done all Date of review: December 17, 2009
In short: Some good, some bad In full: First time I have entered this race and was delighted to achieve a PB in glorius sunshine. Obviously the organisers can't take the credit for the weather but I thought that the course was scenic and only a couple of hills caused concern. A few people who have run a previous version of this race and were disappoined with the enforced route change but I am unable to compare.
I did feel that the mile markers were smaller than at other races I have entered and indeed I missed the ones at 6 and 10 miles.
It was slightly disappointed with the goody bag but have seen worse. There was a nice medal so I was happy with that. I did see some race T-shirts on sale at a stall for £3 before the race but the guy there couldn't confirm if there were any in the bags or not so he lost the sale.
The baggage tent was highly efficient and my bag was returned to me almost before I reached the barrier.
The car park situation sounded chaotic but I was staying a different part of town so thankfully avoided this.
Chip timing. I don't like the type used here. It has proved unreliable in the past for me and reports here suggest similar problems. Not yet established when or if the data collected at the half way point will be released. A sign to mark the half way point would have been nice. I worked out where we were but not sure everyone did.
Finally the major issue - the lack of water. I was lucky enough to get my supply but the problems suffered by others cannot be excused.I'm not sure what the shelf life is of these bottles but surely there was no risk in ordering more than was needed. It wasn't like we were expecting something perishable like a banana each or something. Running out of water is a serious issue on any day especially a warm one.I hope steps are taken to ensure this never happens again. Date of review: March 26, 2007
