In short: Enjoyable race In full: I thought the setup and organisation at the start was good. The course was through some fairly scenic countryside and was quite varied. Plenty of support and well manned waterstations. Goody bag packed full of stuff. Only negative comment is that my family said they would have liked somewhere they could have sat down and got a drink while they waited. Why not have a refreshments tent next year? I'll definitely do this race again. Date of review: October 4, 2009

In short: Excellent organisation, tough course In full: Well organised as usual and with lots of support around the route. I found the hills tougher this year but it is still one of my favourite races. btw I don't really want a medal, the t-shirt is fine (although is the wording on it supposed to be at such a jaunty angle?) In short: Nice run in the forest In full: Organisation was good. No problems parking or getting the chip timer. First part of the course was a steep up-hill, which was fine. However, the track was not wide enough for more than 3 abreast and in some places was only wide enough for one. This caused traffic problems which meant we were constantly stopping and starting. Once we cleared the top of the hill (brilliant view) the path widened and there was more space. Rest of the run was a nice mixture of gravel paths and trails through the trees. Passed the water station twice where they were giving out bottled water and I'm sure the majority of that was just thrown on the floor as you can't drink 330ml in the middle of a race and I didn't want to carry a bottle. A minor gripe. Nice ending where we were tantalisingly close to the finish line only for the path to take us another 100m along before swinging round for the final straight. An enjoyable run but forget about a PB unless you start right at the front. Date of review: July 15, 2009

In short: Hot, Hilly fun In full: This is the most difficult Half that I've done. The number and steepness of the hills make it very challenging. The organisation of the race was very good. Normally road racing gets pushed out to country lanes on the edge of town but this one starts bang in the middle of Stoke and went through urban areas the whole way. This was great because there was loads of support from local people and the police/marshalls closed roads all the way round. Spectators were giving out Jelly Babies and a nice lady gave me a drink of water on the really steep hill. Finish was excellent, big crowd and the announcer calling out names as people went through. Well done to the organisers!! Date of review: June 9, 2008
