In short: Well organised, friendly, fast race In full: Great event. Done it several times now and is a must on the annual calendar now. Good scenic course, couple of very small bumps i.e. over motorway bridge but nothing of note so fast course. Well organised. Very well supported and the marshals very vocal in cheering people on. Back to technical T shirts this year after the blip of providing cotton ones last year. I gather the only niggle was running out of safety pins for attaching numbers but I was early so didn't affect me. Cheers High Legh and Lymm Runners. See you next year. Date of review: March 2, 2015
In short: Mud, wind, rain, hail and deer! In full: Probably the worst conditions I've ever done a race in but didn't detract from it at all in fact in a perverse way added to the enjoyment. Super fun, stunning course, great atmosphere, faultless organisation and a great goody back full of food! See ya next year! Date of review: December 7, 2014
In short: Flat, scenic, fast route. Organisation needs improving next time In full: Overall ok. Route picturesque, flat, fast and traffic free. Good PB potential. Plenty of parking - though could get messy if wet as in a field. Goody bag relatively uninspiring. Toilets - poor poor poor. No excuse for delaying races due to lack of provision. Warmed up ready for 10am start and then had to do it all again for the delay. Date of review: July 3, 2014
In short: Super Event and Great Goody Bag In full: Great fun. Super race through beautiful park. How many races do you run through herds of deer? Loved it despite my calf screwing up with 300m to go! Awesome goody bag. Loaf of bread. Tea cakes and choccie biccies. Happy days. Date of review: December 8, 2013
In short: Remains one of the running highlights of the year. In full: 6th time at Langley for me and great to be back after missing it through injury last year. The weather held off perfectly and as always this remains one of my favourite races of the year. The hill still hurts like hell but the views and sense of achievement of getting up are worth it - especially sat here drinking the beer from the goodie bag afterwards. Tea and cakes as well in the Church hall after. Perfect. Thanks Macc Harriers and all the Marshals. See you next year! Date of review: November 2, 2013
In short: Doesn't get much better than this. In full: Love this race. Has to be one of the best races on the calender by a long shot. Superb course, stunning scenery, faultless organisation (big thanks to all involved), very friendly, bottle of beer for finishing and delicious cakes and tea in the church hall after. Can't ask for much else. See you next year!! Date of review: November 6, 2011
In short: Carlsberg don't do races but if they did........................ In full: I love this event. By far my favourite event of the year. I've been injured all year, I'm full of lurgy at the moment and I've run today my personal worst here but who cares. Running doesn't get any better than this. This race gets you back to what running is about, forget getting hung up on times and just run for the pure enjoyment of it. Up and down suicidal hills, through rivers and mud and enjoy the best of the Cheshire Countryside. Add into that a perfect day - everytime I run this race the weather is glorious, plus a fantastic village fete straight out of the Victorian era to keep the family entertained. The trout tasted great on the BBQ tonight, plus we got there early to catch a few extra ourselves at the trout farm. A great day out. See you in 2011!!!! Date of review: June 5, 2010
In short: Fantastic and superbly run 10 mile race In full: The third time I've run this race and not hard to see why this is classed as the best 10 mile race in the Uk.
The only fault I can come up with for this race is that it's in Stockport (unsurprisingly given the race name!) and as a result some of the route is pretty dull. However, the park section and Goyt Valley section more than make up for it.
If you could transplant this race with it's superb organisiation, marshalling, track start and finish, proper running T shirts, goody bags, jaffa cakes, spot prizes (I won free entry next year!!!) etc to the middle of some decent countryside you would have the best race of the year unquestioningly. As it is it's pretty damn close.
The hills aren't too bad and as always there are downhill bits to compensate for the ups. I've PB'd here for 2 years running now.
Thanks to all at Stockport Harriers and see you next year. Date of review: December 14, 2009
In short: Fantastic race as always (despite new start) In full: This is one of my two favourite races on the calender. Brilliant event as always, although I'm sure that hill has got steeper since last year. Great improvement in moving the finish off the muddy field. However, this necessitaed moving the start and as much as I hate to critise one of my favourite races the start was a farce. It was far too narrow, parked cars, cars and buses still trying to get through. Only clocked the new route as 6.90 miles on my Garmin also, have to check what the old route measured and whether it has shrunk! Despite the moan, everything else about this event epitomises why I love running. Thanks Macc Harriers and see you next year!! Date of review: November 8, 2009
In short: Good scenic HM with a couple of challenging hills In full: First time I've run this one, overall good race and delighted to break PB. Start was a bit odd with all being told to get inside the school and then being marched out again but other than that organisation was excellent. Well and enthusiastically marshalled, plenty of water stations and well supported, thoroughly enjoyed it as an event. No official race parking not great, every man (or woman!) for themselves on the nearby roads. T shirt ok but more a billboard for the sponsors and not one I'd wear plus another medal to sit in a drawer but that's just me being grumpy I'm not a medal fan, got dozens of them now and they don't really mean anything - rather have a couple of quid of the entry. Nice countryside to run in once cleared Congleton Town Centre. First half of race quite undulating and hard to find rhythm. Hill at 1.5 miles not too bad, sting at 12 short and sharp but overall a quick HM course. Will be back next year. Date of review: October 12, 2009
