In short: 1st half of each lap is grim. 2nd half is delightful
In full: In reviewing this rural spring marathon it has to be compared to the much better Halstead race.

It's a 2 lapper which is fine but the first half of each lap is an undulating (with 2 steep hills) main road which is just grim until you hit Beccles where it turns into rural lanes and tracks. Lots of water stations but cups not bottles and only half filled. Not good on such a hot day.

The option of dropping your own drinks off is a must.

Having the half split time shouted out to you is a nice touch but the goody bag (a pen, ballon and loads of flyers) was a waste of time. And I've had better medals at fun runs.

Well organised event but there are much better rural marathons around.

In short: feel good event. most people in fancy dress on a tough course by headtorch
In full: just a couple of minor niggles keep it from being a great race. At one or 2 points the marshalling / signage / glow sticks (it's run at night, glowsticks mark the route!) were too sparse. At almost exactly 3 miles in across an unlit car park it was difficult to know where to go.
The prize presentation was pointless. It was almost 8:30 when it was carried out with no microphone and most of the winners having gone home.
But these are niggles. There were lots of good things as well - there were spot prizes for the best fancy dress (but the best of the night didn't get one as he revealed his mankini after the prizes were annouced!), the finish had energy drinks, toffee apples, goody bags and bananas.
the course was excellent - almost bang on 5 miles and 3 tough climbs. A nice one to do in daylight.

In short: tough but rewarding.
In full: mix of beginners and a few club runners. Well organised and marshalled. A tough course with a hard hill at 9.5km.
Unusual prizes of Denby pottery were a nice surprise.

In short: pricey and last minute course changes are unnecessacary and frustrating
In full: if you are going to do one of the lakeland trails do Hawkshead. Garburn is overrated and as it goes over the pass bad weather has a large impact. As full fell kit was required (but not checked) the route shouldn't have been changed because of some rain. At £26 it is over priced.

In short: Not as quick as the advertising suggests
In full: A nasty hill at 8 miles and the incline from12 miles to the finish along with twisty sections, bollards to dodge, cobbles and uneven tarmac mean this isnt as easy as the relatively flat profile would have you believe. There weren't enough toilets for the number of competitors and no finish line clock. Chip time was a benefit as were the bottled water, high5 and bananas at the finish. Not a great deal of support on the way around either. It's got a long way to go before it's as popular/successful as the Robin Hood.

In short: Flat, fast and dull. Great memento and organization
In full: Oh dear god that is a boring course. 2 different laps around a flat airfield.

Very well organized. Lots of parking and quick to get off site at the end. A great memento of a glass cube with runners inside it. Way better than yet another cotton, cheap, sponsor embossed T-shirt that will never get worn.
