In short: A challenging race, but good times still possible In full: A very well organised race, with nice touches such as the friendly ladies serving teas and cake from the pavilion, and supervised baggage storage including keys. This is the first race that I have been to that labelled keys! Parking was hassle free which is always a blessing.
The course was hilly, as promised, with lots of fast downhills, making up for the tough ups. The Marshalls were all very friendly and supportive, drinks stations sensibly spaced out, and two Jelly Baby staions which were very welcome.
Results were on line in the afternoon, which was very impressive.
There were three of us running from my club, and we will try and recruit more for next year. It's a pity that there were only 206 runners, and I hope that won't put you off holding the race again next year. Date of review: August 4, 2014
In short: A well organised, possibly PB race, but too hot on the day. In full: This is my favourite mixed terrain race and the 22nd time I have run it.
The organisation, as usual was excellent, with ample parking, plenty of toilets, enthusiastic marshalls and a nice scenic, virtually traffic free course. The water stations were well positioned and manned. and plenty of water and orange at the finish.
It was very hot, as usual, but thankfully not as hot as last year. I was 8 minutes quicker which either means I was fitter, or had become acclimatised to hotter conditions. Date of review: July 17, 2014
In short: A well organised, possibly PB race, but too hot on the day. In full: A fast flat course, but the heat made the going very tough. There was only one drinks station on route, and my cup was only a quarter full.
The course was rather dull, running twice round an Industrial Estate, but on a cooler day, would have seen some faster times. An 11.00 start was a bit unfortunate due to the temperature, and an earlier start would have been preferable.
I think the increase in entries was due to the race being given HRRL rating, but there were an awful lot of did not starts. Date of review: June 8, 2014
In short: A fairly challenging race, especially in the windy conditions In full: A well organised race, including ample parking. The marshall directing cars onto the field was doing a good job, but wasn't wearing a marshalls yellow bib. I think this made his job harder, as drivers weren't sure whether he "was official."
It was impossible to hear instructions at the start, even though I was standing near the front. This needs to be addressed, in future, as important safety information etc. is given out then.
Excellent service at the water stations and great encouragement from the helpers.
Disappointed however, at the lack of spectators to encourage us on route. Date of review: May 13, 2014
In short: A well organised, possibly PB race In full: Considering the fact that there were over 2,000 runners, things went really well. Good encouraging marshalls, cake and bananas at the finish, and a rather seventies oriented orange t shirt collected before the race.
Very cold but bright, and ideal running conditions. I was over a minute quicker than last year.
It took quite a while leaving the car park, but that was to be expected with the high volume of cars.
Very well done to the Organisers, and I'll be back again next year, all being well. Date of review: March 24, 2014
In short: A well organised race, blessed with excellent weather In full: This was my second time for this race, and I was impressed with the organisation, from the car parking, signage to the leisure centre, handing out numbers and timing chips, Marshalls round the course, and secure baggage area. The race started on time, and we cleared the start line without too much bumping and barging. There was noticeably less traffic on the roads than last year, which made the race more enjoyable. People have been very critical of the drinks stations being slow and running out of water, but I hope they didn't give the helpers a hard time. These people are all volunteers, and give up their time so that we can have a race. without them, there would be no race. Very impressive results being online early the same afternoon. I'll be back again next year, all being well. Date of review: March 10, 2014
In short: My favourite mixed terrain race In full: A very well organised race, as usual. The Marshalls were friendly and encouraging and sweltering in the heat in their hi viz bibs. The timing chip, attached to the back of the race number was an improvement over the Velcro strap round the ankle used in previous races. No struggling to remove it with the help of Marshalls at the finish. The only downside, as per previous years was the heat, but the 3 drinks stations were well spaced and efficiently run. This was my 21st run and all being well, will be back again next year. Date of review: July 18, 2013
In short: A well organised off road marathon In full: This was my first off road marathon, which I found challenging but the beautiful scenery helped to offset the slog up and down the never ending hills. The marshalling was excellent at the start and finish, as well as round the course. They were encouraging and helpful, ensuring nobody went the wrong way. Parking at the finish was no problem, and the coaches from the finish to the start were all lined up ready to go in good time. I will definitely run this one again, and as I now know what to expect, will hopefully run it quicker. Date of review: June 10, 2013
In short: A very well organised race, with a very friendly atmosphere In full: My first time for this race and the fastest time for 5 years.
Well organised, friendly and helpful Marshalls who did their best to control impatient motorists who seemed to think runners shouldn't be "on their roads."
It was great finishing on the running track, which enabled us to gain a few seconds in a sprint finish. I will certainly be back next year. Keep up the good work Salisbury RC and thanks for the nice T Shirt. Date of review: March 11, 2013
