In short: nearly faultless In full: great course, scenery, support and organisation. only criticism - and its such a minor one that I'm almost afraid to raise it - is the section when the metric runners joined the marathoners. The course became very narrow and with big differentials in pace (I was running c.3.25) it became a little awkward even it wasn't really congested - I spent much of next few miles running in/out of the cones down the middle of the road to avoid runners to my left. maybe alter the timing so that the races merge at roughly same pace? that aside it was outstanding. In short: can't work out why i haven't run it before In full: really well organised but relaxed HM - great route (x6), a bit of a mix of terrain, and quite a mix of ability so anyone would be welcome if they are up for the distance. Probably wasn't the fastest day for it, but definite pb potential. Marshalls did a sterling job in the rain. Date of review: September 23, 2012
In short: challenging race, perfect organisation In full: had a tough one (a word of thanks to one of the marshalls at 22m(?) who prompted me to restart running!) but race is fairly faultless. First half incredibly scenic, second is all flat but a tough mental challenge out on the seafront. thanks to all. Date of review: September 5, 2011
In full: First time for me and will definitely aim to do it again. Given the route it is very well marshalled; hardly scenic although one or two fleeting moments of tranquility. Nice to start/finish on the track too. PB helped. Date of review: February 28, 2011
In short: nice evening for it In full: I got a pb too for 10k, but think the course must have been a bit short for this - the short start/finish straight was only done once. A clock would have been good too, but I accept that it was only meant to be a 'jog'. Otherwise it was a really nice evening out in Hyde Park. Date of review: April 10, 2008
In short: very friendly, well marshalled, bit lonely towards the end In full: my first marathon, and it got very lonely from about 20m onwards when I was really struggling. not sure this is the best race to do first time, as having a few more people around may have helped. obvious gltiches at start, which have already been commented on, and hopefully organisers will deal with this next year. marshalling and drink-stations were excellent.
they should definitely try and re-route the finish area though - running through the east marsh was a horrible slog, and almost felt as if you'd veered off the route and ended up in a rugby training session. There's a really nice stretch of path running around the east edge of the main marsh (by the river), and i'm sure that could be incorporated into a sufficiently long loop to finish things off.
overall, despite a hellish rookie last 5 miles, will be back next year. Date of review: November 12, 2007
