In short: Race highlight of the year! In full: Absolutely stunning course. Lovely, warm, friendly and beautifully organised. Very supportive marshals too, which i always find really encouraging and helps my speed. (Got a PB one on this one.) All of this I find trickles down the participants making for a very special day. Lovely tea and cake and great medal too. Thanks very much to all concerned. Date of review: March 29, 2011
In short: The prettiest half marathon you'll ever run. In full: A beautiful run with great organisation and a lovely atmosphere. Marshalls were friendly and encouraging. Loved the tea and cake at the end too. Nice to have a lovely medal to reward the effort too. This is a special race and clearly a lot of thought has been put into every aspect. Well done to the organisers, brilliant work! Date of review: March 30, 2009
In short: Beautiful course, great marshall, good organisation! Bad Orange Bottle! In full: Really love this this race. Beautiful course and always well organised with lovely marshalls. Quality toilets too - don't think i've seen anything as posh as that at any other race. Again, as so many people have stated, the downside was no medal. If it's about cost then maybe they should allow the option of an entry price with or without medal. I'd gladly pay for a decent memento. The small mantle piece trophies they gave out in the 2006 and 2007 races were great. They should get back to those. Date of review: February 23, 2009
In short: Exhilarating, hard and horrid, in equal measures. In full: Great day as usual, love this race and always worth doing.
Two area of criticism though (sorry): The Start: If you going to increase the field by this amount then you need to have projected time areas at the start. With this course, more than any other, there's the potential for bottlenecks at the hills, especially as the hills are on enclosed paths. I found i was cueing at the hills for over half the race.
Parking: I think everyone expects a little cueing on occassions like this, but there was little organisation where it was needed in getting the cares out with there being a free-for-all in rushing for the exit. We were stationary for 40 mins before even getting in the slow moving cue to get out. Again, increase the amount of runners by all means, but increase the organisation too.
That said, still a brilliant race to do, and a a fantastic day. Date of review: November 17, 2008
In short: Amazing scenery and a good challenging balanced course. In full: Do either the 10 or 20 every year and love it! The scenery makes it, and while perhaps not my view at the time, it's good to have a few challenging 'undulations'. Organisers and marshalls also brilliant and very friendly which really makes it.
Only comments i'd have is, more loos at start, add the yards to the course to make it a full 10 if possible; stagger the the starts of the 20 and 10 runners to avoid the bottle neck for the first mile and a half; and loose the t-shirts (not good) and bring back the medals/plaques. In short: Very enjoyable! Well organised, friendly, flat & fast, and a great way to see the full extent of a lovely city. Hope to make it next year for a pop at the PB. Date of review: October 16, 2006
In short: A very special day! Stunning scenic course and possibly the best organisation and atmosphere of any run I've taken part in to date. In full: The stars aligned to make this a very special day indeed. The marshall's were fantastic dishing out words of encouragement the whole way round, as were the other supporters. The organisation was absolutely perfect. One thing I really noticed was also how friendly the other runners were. Whether they were overtaking you or you were overtaking them, many seemed to have the time and energy to give a bit of encouragement as they went by. I couldn't help but feel there was a real communal spirit to the whole event from the competitors through to organisers alike. This is a brilliant race and would recommend to anyone.
Thanks again to all the Marshall's - you really made a day to remember. Date of review: May 15, 2006
In short: Generall good and lovely scenery on tow path. Perhaps a touch busy. In full: Pros: Nice scenery. Good fast route and a great pre-marathon trainer. Good distribution of water stations and Lucozade. Good places near the river to have post run breakfast slap-up (and pint).
Cons: Perhaps a touch busy, especially on first loop. Post race was pretty chaotic, especially with regards to left luggage. Needs to be a little more organised and secure if taking additional funds from the runners I think. Goody bag and memento were terrible. B&W mug that didn't even distinguish between 16 & 8 mile races - that's a touch on the tight side.
Definitely worth doing though. I'd certainly have another bash at this. Date of review: April 3, 2006
