In short: Great Good Friday jaunt along the seafront
In full: First time I have done this one - having done the half-marathon in previous years. I found the race to be well organised, parking in a field right next to the start and finish and marshals were fantastic and very supportive throughout. This is a very quick course if there are light winds. I'll definitely be back. Well done Folkestone.

In short: Good scenic race but not value for money
In full: The race itself is a good one. Fast course despite two main hills. Plenty of downhill stretches to make time up. We got there at least an hour before the start so parked in the school car park, got the number straight away and didn't queue for the toilets. Perhaps there's a lesson there for others. Saying all that though it isn't value for money and hard to figure out how they can justify the entry fee.

In short: Two words describe this race. The first one starts with "F" and the second one is "Brutal"
In full: I thought I would be better prepared for the challenge after running it last year but, oh no. Was struggling with the inclines after 2 miles and it just went from bad to worse. The uphills were just mad - especially the steps. The downhills were suicidal in the mud. The "chute" was an exercise in concentration to avoid going A over T.

The stepping stones - so so funny as I realised I couldn't actually see them due to the water running about 6 inches over the top of them. Soaked feet and a quagmire for the next 100 yards afterwards.

So hard but so rewarding. They don't call it the toughest half in Britain for the sake of it. You really earn your medal and T-Shirt afterwards.

Well done to all the organisers and other competitors. Anyone who goes on and does the full Picnic marathon has some serious respect from me - I could just about make it down to the car park afterwards, let alone running the course again.

In short: Fourth time of running this one and will return again and again
In full: Yeah I really like this race. Travel over 100 miles to get there but the course is a good mix of up and down. Hills deserve respect but this is still a fast course as there is plenty of downhill. Marshalls were great and very supportive and I too prefer the marquees in the park rather than using the building on the corner. I'll be back.

In short: One of my favourite races in terms of scenery but not in terms of value for money
In full: Positive things first - a great course and nice scenery which takes in pretty villages and country tracks with great views over the surrounding countryside. A very popular 10 mile race which attracts a good level of entries. My PB course so I will always have fond memories of it.

Now for the negatives - Lack of water at the finish is either a bad oversight by the race team or an intentional move. Either way it's not good. Yes you could theoretically get a drink in the hall but lots of people were complaining about the queues so didn't bother. A mug for finishing ? I would perhaps accept that for a £6 10k race but not for the price of this one.

A great route and race but not good value for money by any stretch of the imagination.

In short: Challenging half-marathon through town and country
In full: First time I have done this one and have no problems at all with the organisation. I read that car parking was limited so simply turned up at 8.15 and parked in the school fine. Bit of a walk to the start too but, again, knew about that so no problem.

The only moan I will have is about the route. The views from the Pilgrims Hill were great but it was just a shame that you had to contend with 6 miles of running alongside a busy road to get there. No chance of overtaking if you valued your life as the cars were coming shooting past on your right. Miles 6-10 were generally uphill which was a struggle but the last 3 miles were more down than up which was good.

Overall, I am glad I have "ticked" it off my list of races done but won't be returning. I must stress this is not down to the organisation which was very good but the route just didn't do it for me.

In short: A wonderfully hard half-marathon up and down Box Hill
In full: I ache in so many places today I can't believe it. The race is pure torture in places. So so hard. Even the downhills don't give any respite as other muscles start to scream too. Overall a wonderful race and a t-shirt, cap and medal the size of a dinner plate that I can definitely say I have earned !!!!

In short: Great, well organised race through town and country
In full: I first did this one in 2007 and managed to fit it into my training this year too. It is a fairly challenging course with 3 main hills to speak of. You know though when you have nailed the last one at around 8 miles you have flat and downhill to the finish so not that bad. Very well organised and no problems with baggage retrieval, chip timing etc. I hope it's not 3 years until I manage to drive the 100 miles or so and do this one again !!!

In short: Great race through some lovely Kent countryside
In full: I love this race. Nice mix of couple of challenging uphills and lots of downhill stretches and some lovely scenery to mix things up too. 2nd half is quicker than the first half with one hill at about the 7 mile mark to look out for. Last mile and a half are sloping downhill. Well organised, runs like clockwork and marshalls all very encouraging. Well done Invicta - the numbers turning up to run this one is testament to how good people rate it.

In short: A course of two halves
In full: First time of doing this one although I had done the Dartford Half a few years back. The first half is more up than down with a couple of hills to negotiate. The second half is mainly downhill or flat with a great long downhill bit between miles 5-7. There is a sting in the tail though with a tough windy hill to nail at the 9 mile marker.

Marshalls very encouraging, very well organised overall and grabbed a PB today too so, although it is an undulating course, treat the early hills with respect and get your foot down on the downhills and a PB is on the cards.
