In short: Nice course, great marshals - good race! In full: I thoroughly enjoyed this race. The course fairly was varied & especially lovely running through Christ Church Meadow & along the river. The marshals were wonderful & there were some good crowds in places, plus various bands providing musical inspiration. It was very special to have the legendary Sir Roger Bannister starting the race & lovely to run past the Iffley Road track where he made history.
Having pacers was excellent - & I managed to get a 'comeback PB' of sub 2:15 after knee surgery. My only slight disappointment was that the small size tee shirts had run out by the time I finished.
Overall - well organised & a pleasure to run. Date of review: October 15, 2012

In short: A good day In full: This was my third time for this race & I'd definitely come back next year. I like the loop around the town at the start - it's good not to go out too fast & also to soak up a little bit more of the support from the crowd as it can get a bit sparse farther on. The engraved cube is nice & a bit different but my dog likes to wear my race medals & so was a bit miffed to miss out! Thank you to the organisers, marshals & all the supporters for a great race. In short: A well organised, first timer friendly race! In full: This was my first full marathon & I loved it! The organisation was superb - lots of info given out at the start of the race over the loudspeakers, tonnes of friendly, encouraging stewards, & water stations & loos every couple of miles. The scenery was beautiful - English villages with thatched cottages & fields with wildlife & bird song. There were a couple of trickier parts on the road but the marshals were very good at giving warnings. There were a few lonely parts but in the main the crowds were great - incredibly supportive & really motivating. I had my name printed on my vest & having people calling out was such a great feeling - it really kept me going, as did the other competitors (special thanks to Dave the Maths teacher for the company!) The second time along the Greenway was a bit tough (it's dusty & a bit monotonous) but it was the last 5 miles of the race so I'm sure that had something to do with it! My only grumble is that the medal is a shared one for the half & full marathon. I'm not an elitist but this was my first marathon & I just sort of wanted to have the proof (apart from the sore legs! *g*) A tee shirt would've been nice too but the ones for sale were very reasonably priced (though again - no shirt solely for the marathon.)
So – a fabulous experience and thank you to everyone involved! Date of review: April 30, 2007

In short: A great race - well organised & a scenic course. In full: This was my first time at the DK & I'll definitely be back. The organisation was smooth & there were plenty of marshals all around the course. Lovely scenery with a few hills & some great support at the Navigation & the start/finish. The commemorative goblet is nice though personally I do prefer a medal - but that's just a minor thing. A really great experience - thank you to everyone involved! Date of review: May 4, 2006

In short: A great race for my first Half M! In full: This was my first Half after previously doing 5 & 10K races. The start area had a fun, friendly atmosphere with clearly labelled marquees & there were even clowns to entertain the crowds! I wasn't too sure where to stand in the starting area, despite reading the event instructions - some markers would have been useful - but I managed to get in okay & hopefully not slow anyone else down. Once out of the town there were some inclines but the last 4-5 miles seemed to flatten out. I must have missed the 13-mile marker because before I knew it, I was at the finish. There were a good allotment of drink stations & plenty of stewards (the help at crossing busy roads was very much appreciated.) The race medal is really nice & the tee shirt is good quality - plus there were free bananas!! I really enjoyed it & will definitely do this one again. I ran a faster time than I'd predicted (though disappointingly the chip time seems to take the start time from the gun & not when you cross over the start line - well that or my watch & two of my supporters' watches were all out by the same amount!) Overall this was a really good experience - thank you, Stafford! Date of review: March 21, 2006
