In short: A truly unique race, you have to do it at least once In full: I loved this race (once it had finished) found the headwinds from 6-10 miles really challenging. River crossing were fun, good people to run with.
Good organisation, though I didn't know that I had finished until some guy told me. Us middle fielders must have cut a few corners - only did 12.3 miles (and soo pleased it wasn't any longer!).
Enjoyed the cups of tea at the end Date of review: August 19, 2009
In short: Great race along footpaths, perfect weather and mostly flat In full: The organisation on the day was great. I really enjoyed this race after the stress of getting there. I entered online, therefore didn't receive any instructions on how to get there or where to park. An email with a map attached highlighting parking would have been helpful to those from out of the area. I came from Durham, so even with my google maps I felt a bit lost! In short: Absolutely brilliant - words can not describe it!!!! In full: This was my first marathon and I loved it. I liked the fact that there was no mile markers, so you could just enjoy your running.
Organisation was fantastic from start to finish, many thank to all the helpers - especially at the checkpoints/unofficial water stops, water/squash never tasted so good. Hot cross bun didn't go down well though.
The scenery was amazing and will take some beating. If I do another marathon, it will be another fell race. Don't fancy a road one after this - afterall, wheres the challenge in that?? Date of review: October 29, 2006
In short: Atmosphere is amazing, but the numbers running it make it frustrating In full: My second half marathon and gnr. The pens at the start made for slightly less congestion in race, but too many slow runners/walkers start at the front of the field. It would be ideal if you had to submit a recent half marathon time in order to start in the greens/reds. I started in the orange and was impressed when I crossed the startline after 10mins, but frustrated with having to overtake so many throughout the whole race! I agree with an earlier comment - that it is more of an event than a race, its a shame it can't be both. The organisation was great though - I had no problems with the baggage buses or toilet queues. It all went smoothly. Date of review: October 2, 2006
