In short: Been there, done it........ In full: Without doubt it is an occasion.
Read loads of blah regarding slower runners in front of faster runners, water bottles on road yada,yada,yada....Well what do you expect? it is essentially a charity run for 36,000 people. If you want a more 'professional' experience, run the less high profile marathons.
I ran it for the first time and expected these conditions. Glad I did it but found it a tad overrated and must admit the woo-hoos from the crowds and rather crap and distorted sound systems did get a bit tedious after a while.
Won't do it again and will move on to more serious races which I suggest those 'purists' who constantly complain about less able and serious runners do also...enough moaning people!
But still a spectacle just the same. Date of review: April 29, 2010
In short: Very cosy in places but brought out the worst in some In full: Pretty forgettable run really, gets interesting on the narrow footpaths - seems to bring out the elbowing brigade. People, if you think you are that good, go and stand at the front and leave us mere mortals to enjoy the race without getting pushed and cut up by morons who are desperate to overtake then pull up right in front of you! happened to me more than once and I was not exactly hanging about (1:26) Date of review: January 18, 2009
In short: Interesting course! In full: Started off a bit un-promising having to run around housing estates and some very narrow footpaths but once out on the open road, it proved to be a good run with some challenging inclines to-boot! The iffy route through the housing estates (albeit they were very nice and not as dodgy as where I live!!)is more than compensated by the excellent organisation and good facilities at the start and finish. The momento was nice too! Date of review: December 29, 2008
In short: A very good route and friendly Marshals! In full: After the long, hot barmy summer we had...it was a 'bracing' race. That said, it was well organised, a good mix of runners and and interesting, slightly challenging route. Date of review: November 9, 2008
In short: Rain again but a great run indeed! In full: Third year in a row and third year I got wet! At least this time the wind off the sea was not as strong as last year, the poor seagulls had trouble staying put!! That said, it is a great run and still not too crowded unlike the Great North. Additional benefit of staying in the same hotel as Paula et al! Date of review: November 1, 2008
In short: A surprisingly good race - what a magnificent stadium! In full: First time I ran this and will definately be back next year. A good flat course marred a little by narrow footpaths next to busy main roads in parts. Well it is London! Having said that, it was a really enjoyable run and what a stadium to finish in! I never knew Jill but she must have been a very special lady to have a run dedicated to her. Best wishes to her family and friends who obviously loved her a lot. Date of review: October 19, 2008
In short: Really good run In full: Really scenic course, excellent Marshalling and a decent t-shirt to boot! Much better than pointless medals, at least you can use the shirts! Definately be back next year, just hope it doesn't get too popular! Date of review: October 12, 2008
In short: Too Many runners In full: Don't want to sound like an old fart and definately not like one of those club runners who believe they are professional and demand right of way but this was my fourth year and although it is a marvellous event, the race is marred by too many runners now. Throughout the whole race, i was either running around people who obviously have great misplaced expectations on the day for their finish times or getting faster runners push past me only to slow immediately causing me to kick their heels on more than one occasion. Then the ridiculous rush and elbowing for the finish line! ITS A FUN RUN PEOPLE, IT IS TOO BIG TO BE ANYTHING ELSE. ENJOY IT FOR WHAT IT IS!!!! Date of review: October 6, 2008
In short: Different!! In full: Taking the weather out, running two laps of the airfield perimeter is a bit dull. However, that said, it is a flat smooth course and unique. Without doubt the flatness allows for PB's. Due to the type of location, there can never be an atmosphere apart from start and finist which credit to the few that turned out was really encouraging. I would do it again because it is a unique, easy to run course where you have suffiecient room to enjoy yourself! Date of review: April 16, 2007
