In short: Very up and down. The scenery is a bit samey: lots of pine trees! But loads of encouraging cadet marshals.
In full: Did this race last 4 years ago. Disappointed that the start and finish are no longer in front of the grand country house. Running the same route for the first couple and last couple of miles is a bit boring. Bag pipes midway into the run were a novel touch. The cadet marshals were great and everyone was giving out words of encouragement. Sadly, I didn’t have enough energy to acknowledge them!

In short: 4th time I've run this race and the hills don't get any smaller. The last two miles seem to go on forever, but who can resist a last sprint along the station platform?! Great organisation as well with mile markers and plenty of marshalls.

In short: Great scenery which you get plenty of time to take in as you stagger up the three steep hills!
In full: One of my most favourite races, with great scenery and punishing hills.

Great organisation and the marshalls with the jelly babies were really appreciated.

In short: Very tough race - the last climb to Beacon Batch is a killer
In full: Organisers need to watch the numbers. A record entry this year meant problems near the start, about 3 miles in, with people having to queue to get over styles. personally, I lost about 5 minutes as a result and missed a PB - very annoying!

In short: Brilliant format: 6-leg relay over 29 miles sees the fortunes of teams ebb and flow; the fastest two teams were separated by just 500yds at the last hand-over point.
In full: Great new event over the Mendips, with fanatastic scenery, good weather and a few hills. The 6-leg format means the lead and your team's position is likely to change frequently. Choosing runners to suit the different terrain on each leg is obviosly key to a quick overall time. Less competitive teams can have a great afternoon as well. The curry and pints at the race party never tasted so good. The starwberry cider was a revelation!

In short: A great way to raise money for a good cause.
In full: The best fell run/orienteering combo of the year. When the sun comes out the views across to Wales and the Quantocks are spectacular, but the running gets a bit hotter!

In short: Lots of hills and loads of mud! Exhausting! Better changing facilities and toilets needed.

In short: Excellent cross-country course made better by the glorious weather. An additional water station would have helped. The cadet marshalls weren't that great either - most looked like they would rather have been elsewhere.

In short: Hard race, made harder this year by foul weather!
In full: Could the arsehole in the red car who dented my silver discovery on leaving the car park (near the station finish) have the decency to contact me so that he can pay for the repairs! Kevin Wheeler (01749 671101)
