In short: Despite excellent organisation, the course could do with changing In full: The event was let down by the course, which had far too many hills and not much flat sections. The road surface was also in a poor state in sections. Getting the course to run along a flatter and smoother road surface would make this event top marathon quality. Also the start and finish points should be on a flat. As already stated organisation was excellent and the post race goodies were good. May be charge extra and have one energy drink station on the course may be advisable. Date of review: March 8, 2013
In short: Amazing but challenging In full: Had done this race the previous year but this year was a little more easier to run. I managed a PB however I would not rate this race as the fastest half marathon course mainly due to the hill between 10-11 miles which even if you managed to run up like me, deflates you for the remaining 2 miles.
SMALL CRITICISMS 1) Firstly I did not get an energy drink in my goody bag and no chocolate !! 2) Secondly I believe that for a half marathon there is no need to have so many energy drink stations and probably the quantity is a little to much. I think that both of these should be reduced and an entry fee of a flat £30 should be charged (rather then current £32).
Despite my small criticisms it was a wonderful experience and I would do it again. Date of review: October 24, 2012
In short: Poor Organisation and Course In full: Organisation regarding the start of the race and car parking was poor, £3 (SMALL CHARGE???) I don't think so. Where was the drink station at 2 miles!! and where was the mile markers between 5 and 10, I was unable to judge my race pace. I also thought that the last mile was long and VERY VERY unsafe on the tow path I had cyclists and a person walking their dog off the lead, its a road race stick to the road and run around Sixways Stadium if you need to make up the distance. The Price of £21 I believe was steep. Overall poor although with amendments it can be turned into a good race. Date of review: April 15, 2012
In short: No atmosphere and poor course In full: There are a number of problems which need addressing with this course. Firstly the first part of the race along the river on the A4 was to long and there was no support. Secondly not all the course was on road when going through one of the parks I ran on loose gravel, also running on loose paving which was uneven made running fast hard. I suggest removing the part of the course which is run on the loose paving (make the running surface smooth). Date of review: October 24, 2011
In short: To many up and down hills to contend with. An okay race In full: The hills at about 5 miles and the one between 10 and 11 miles was to long if possible these hills need removing from route. Also just near the finish th underpass was very dark and I could not see where I was running. No directions to where Cambridge Street was for spectators. Date of review: October 24, 2011
In short: Poor organisation in parts In full: 2 LAPS on second lap whilst doing marathon cars well to close. The road should of been closed, to dangerous in parts. Also suggestion to do like the Reading Half Marathon does and finish inside the football stadium, making for more of an atmosphere at the end and a lot less of a walk after you finish back to where your car is parked.
