In short: 6th time doing it and this year was horrible, but not in a good way.
In full: I've always enjoyed the challenge of hell up north, and have competed in every single one since its inception. There was nothing hideously wrong with this years race but the addition of a 0.5 mile extra bog of doom at 10miles was not very well thought out. It took 15 minutes to get through, by which point many of us were dangerously cold. I know that the whole point of the race is that it should be hard (as hell) but it's always felt to be well thought out. This was one obstacle that ruined my day for me.
Having said that, organisation was good, race atmosphere was, as ever, good and it's a great race to experience. Maybe I'm just bitter because I still haven't warmed up, 6 hours after finishing!

In short: Very fast race, well organised and friendly marshals. Shame about the location!
In full: Just a bit dull really. Really flat and therefore fast. Small entry number ensures a "cosy" feel to the race but I am a little bit disappointed at how dull and mundane it was, not helped by the lap nature of the course. Having said that it's friendly, well run (excuse the pun) and a great place to get a PB.

In short: Ridiculously difficult but worth it...just! Still got mud in places it really ought not!
In full: This is my 3rd year doing Hellrunner and this year's organisation was the worst yet! The race itself was tougher this year, more hills, more mud and longer! All good fun but let down by being so poorly organised. The queue for the goody bags was disproportionately long (why not fill the bags before everyone's finished!), especially in the cold. No showers, or even a hose down at the end is a major let down. Also really expensive compared to other local races. Having said all that it was great fun and not to be missed if you're slightly wrong in the head!

In short: Wow! Great views across the beach and brilliant organisation.
In full: This is the 3rd year I've done this race and it was so nice to finally have a wind free race. The weather was perfect, sunny and warm with blue skies. The course itself is nice and flat, out and back around the lighthouse. Definitely beginner friendly but provides good PB potential. The orgnisation was of the highest quality, as always, and the race ran like clockwork. If you're local to the wirral do this race!

In short: Never seen Liverpool in this way before!
In full: The first 4k were abit dull it has to be said but as soon as the tunnel bit was finished the views from the Wirral across the Mersey were stunning. The whole day went like clockwork and the race was somehting quite special. The congestion at the finish was a but irritating, a lot of sweaty runners crammed into a tight space is never ideal. All in all, a friendly and enjoyable race!
