In short: One of Britains toughest marathons, one of the worlds most beautiful.
In full: Chalk lined paths, rutted mud and clay trail this course will find your injuries out.The higher ground is found and pathways level out allowing the joints a rest.
High on the Downs there are four climbs all are steep and the declines are gradual allowing to catch up time.
Concentration essential there is only three miles of road the rest is trail.
The course is genuinely tough the views are easy on the eye there is never a dull moment. It would make the list of worlds top
marathons and it is enjoyable for those that have trained.
Camaraderie excellent, top quality shirt and medal,Go electrolyte drink stations a real performance booster and it is great value for what you can recieve. The beauty is insperational.

In short: Wins my award for the friendliest and most helpful marshalls.
In full: The marathon sets of two hours before the half marathon and therefore it is possible for us marathoners not to see the half marathoners if you were at the back of the field. The first six miles include some sharp 500 meter climbs.Union Jacks flew at the top of the hill from marshalls and supporters.Every few miles water stations fully staffed. The course covers both Norfolk and Suffolk and traffic is only mildly annoying between 1-6 and 14-19 miles on the uphill climb.
We turn into a small village warm in character windey roads are replaced by idylic country lanes. The course passes an array of picturebook pubs and I stooped for half a lime and lemonade on the second lap.Runners warmly welcomed and a great setting as we passed the river with boats readily moored for summer charter.
We run passed a large wooden paint board house and then two miles of cinders tracks. The first loop is finished. The same again but this time the marshalls have really lifted this runner. With 21 marathons behind me I have to give top marks for marshalling the best I have experienced in over fifty races of all distances.
That heart beat of Britain marathoning the 100 marathon club has turned out in large numbers for Bungays 25th marathon.
There are runners here with hundreds of marathons accomplished and a wise word from them in the bar afterwards is listened to with interest.
The finish and we are presented with an excellent engraved glass
ornament.A hand towel inscribed for the event is also given to finishers.
Good clubhouse atmosphere and welcoming bar.A good day had by all
the mayor present safe in the knowledge that Bungay running officials had extended its hand of friendship far and wide.Thank you.

In short: A contender for Britains best goody bag
In full: Fresh, scenic and fast.Water stations handing out bottles.Marshalls confident and in the case of the gentleman with wisdom who allowed my entry five minutes before the start
proving that jobsworths are not represented here.
Course was great gently undulating with a 150 meter climb at the end.
The finish felt like you had one the generation game, what a goody bag.A bottle of Elwood beer from the sponsor together with bar towel and glass. An inscribed medal,a bannana and yes three bourbon biscuits. The towel and glass inscribed with the
Elwood local brewary name.Nothing tacky about this piece of sponsorship and although teetotal it is none the less appreciated and the beer has found a good home.

In short: A definate contender for the fastest half marathon course in Britain.
In full: Good size field with many distinguished runners from the world of marathon running.100 club marathon club represented and still flying runners throughout the world.Late entry desk open until a few minutes before the start.
The courses largest incline is a hump back bridge.Farmers fields
a great companion for most of the race.Marshalls with a cheerful
disposition waving us on,even reminding us to smile for the camera. This is very fast course and the only thing stopping pbs
is that runners might not be at their peak due to the winter season. The weather was a breath of fresh air.Running clubs throughout Britain represented. If you are just getting back in training as I was it was a real confidence lifter.

In short: A great marathon course with atmosphere.
In full: A race designed to avoid traffic. One long four mile hill that is steep past lakes and autumns greenery.Inspirational scenary through a theraputic woodland that takes you all the way back down that steep hill with an eight mile decline between 12-21.The finish is along the beach and fast times are ensured as long as the wind abates.Excellent water stations 1/4 litre bottles of highland spring were appreciated.

In short: Tree lined pavements passed Wimbledon Tennis club undulating not daunting.
In full: Wimbledon Park and the athletics stadium hosts a good race.A wet day saw 150 plus runners show. The athletics track is circled in the beginning and the end, and the bounce from this surface eases the muscles in.
Three laps of leafy suburb running with a 350 meter hill
at Victoria Drive.Only beginners would find this course
remotely difficult and Blackheath Harriers won in most impressive style with a 49minute ten mile race.
Running with the best is always uplifting and being lapped by one of the countries top athletes spured me on.Credit to Wimbledon Hercules for attracting top runners. The hills short as they were then left long stretches of wide pavement running with small declines
for long stretches. The park was a companion on the other side of the road and although there was some traffic it was not enough to worry.
The downside was no distance markers .The upside was a course that gave you three laps of two mile declines after you had mastered the 350 meter hill. The athletic track was great to meet family and friends it overlooks the boating lake and there is a pleasent corner of SW19 that shows a London borough at its best.Although marshalls were not frequent they were in relaxed form and welcoming. The club snack bar serving a good cup of tea, and new members invited to join.
The running season needs races like this one and respect
to Wimbledon, keep up the good work and we look forward to your 50th.

In short: Norfolk country lanes with two long hill climbs that were windy but not steep.
In full: Arriving five minutes before the start was not the ideal
preparation, helpful organisation saw last second registrations taken on the day a big plus.
The course through Norfolk countryside takes in two moderate hill climbs that on the day proved difficult because of head winds. The climbs were not steep but each
lasted approximately a mile. With the wind it was not an
automatic PB course. There is very little traffic and long stretches of country lanes prove a good stimuli for setting times between mile markers. The mile markers were clear and the race can benefit from greater participation from other running club members. The finish
in the village was picturesque and the award of a pint of commemorative beer especially labelled for the day will appeal to those that collect such items.Personally I prefer tee shirts but variety is appreciated and thanks to the local brewery sponser.
The village of Oxenborough is the setting with a derelict
church providing the backdrop.Friendly, scenic and worth the trip from Kent for what was a training run pre a forthcoming marathon.
