In short: Fantastic Organisation
In full: I was a bit put off by the price of this one, thirty odd quid, but the organisation for such a large race was spot on and after the carnage of the Edinburgh marathon this was how a big race should be done. The start was excellent, all the marshals where very helpful and knew what they were doing, the course was really good, do enjoy seeing the elites charging past with barely a sweat on.
I've done nearly twenty half and full marathons and I felt this was one of the best races I've done, the organisers should be applauded for this because this is how it should be done.

In short: Great Support, great course but the problem with the lack of water was unforgiveable.

In short: Best Liverpool half in years
In full: At last a half Liverpool can be proud of. I've done this race six times and the last two years were pretty dire, in fact the only thing that made me return this year was the start by the Arena, parking which wasn't 3 miles from the finish and the change in the course. This was a huge leap forward from the past, the course was one of best I've ran (although thank god the wind wasn't blowing down the promenade of Otterspool)and there was good organisation throughout. The only problem with the race was with the organisation at the end which was bedlam, a small point for which on the whole was a fantastic day.

In short: Brillant race, very well organised
In full: Made up with this race, its taken me nine years to get under 2 hours and finally at long last I've done it, 1hr 52. Organisation was really good, course was a good mix of town and country and I will be back next year.

In short: Improvement on last year, a good, decent race, but a missed oppurtunity
In full: More water stations this year I was glad to see, the organisation for this year seemed better and the crowds were fantastic. Bizarre italian flatbread selection in the goody bag, hugely random.

One point I'd like to make about the parking though, I only hope in next years race that there isn't a bus journey involved it adds undue pressure in the build up.I arrived in Liverpool town centre at eight o clock but didn't make it to Sefton Park until nine with a twenty minute wait at the toilets there was a bit of dash to the baggage hold and then back for the race.

Hopefully next year it'll start down on the front with adequate parking nearby and showing off the cities many historic and newly built buildings. As it was I can't see why this race wasn't run later in the year (after May) when all the roadworks and construction was finished.

Although this was a decent enough race it could have been a superb oppurtunity to showcase the city in it's year of culture had it been held a little later. Instead on the returning bus journey to the car park visitors to city were taken through some of Liverpools most rundown and deprived areas so I can only hope this isn't a lasting image visitors have of this fantastic city.

In short: Fantastic, this is what amateur running is all about.
In full: Having staggered though the closing stages of the Liverpool half on only one water station for the whole race, the Brathay Marathon was a template for good organisation. Loads of marshalls and water stations all the way round, amazing scenery, brillant support, I only hope this one will continue. I've been running (slowly and badly) for around eight years now entering four or races a year and this has been the best days racing I've had by a country mile. This is despite falling to pieces at the 18mile mark with cramps and having to shuffle/walk/trot to the finish.

In short: Great atmosphere, challenging course but poor organisation.
In full: Struggled with the hill at 11 miles but maybe that's because there didn't seem to be a drinks station at nine miles as promised! Also paid £16 for this and the goody bag was 2 biscuits, one small bottle of water and a medal, not v good value for money. I feel the organisation of this could have been a little better, but despite this enjoyed a very challenging (for me anyway)race!
