In short: Friendly race on interesting course In full: Worksop may not spring to mind as a race destination, but the Clowne runners Towpath & Trail is a great event well worth the journey. Beginning with a little climb within a nature reserve which strings the field out a little, the route takes you southwards along the Chesterfield canal before looping around a lake and returning via much the same route. There's a section on grass, which is around a kilometer long, and one and a half kilometers on road befor the end, but the rest of the route is mainly on the towpath. It's well marshalled and signed, with no potential for getting lost, friendly and well supported. Water at the end and complementary massage too! Date of review: September 24, 2012

In short: Good friendly race and good value for money In full: Almost entirely on-road, the Brinsworth 10k is a local race growing in popularity. It's not flat - factor in around 85m of climbing and descent, but it's an interesting course arranged as a single loop with two out - and - back sections. The route crosses a major road twice at the same point; traffic is not stopped but there are plenty of marshalls. The route isn't scenic, but it's a good value event. In short: Good race on mixed terrain and well organised In full: With a mixture of road, trail, grass and tarmac path, this is a real multisurface race where weather conditions would greatly affect your experience and choice of clothing and footwear. Dry but chilly this year, I ran in racing flats, which just about coped! Route marking is good throughout, only on one section could I have been a little confused, but if you're in the middle of the pack there will always be people to follow. There were plenty of friendly marshalls and support; drummers at the base of the single steep section (15m grass slope but steep, probably hitting 20%). I would be being picky to complain about anything in particular - more portaloos might have helped, but the queues weren't terrible. There was a water station at 5k handing out 500ml bottles of water, which is too much - cups would be much preferred. There's about 140-150m of climbing in total, mainly off-road. If you run a PB here, you aren't trying nearly hard enough anywhere else! I ran about a minute slower than I would on a flat, road course. £18 is perhaps a bit pricy for a 10k, but with the road closures there must be police involvement I guess. Goody bag: muesli bar, tee shirt and ballpoint pen. Complimentary recovery shakes provided by NouriSH me now. Bag drop and a good catering stall. Date of review: September 24, 2012

In short: Fast race, well marshalled, mainly flat In full: A well - organised race through the very centre of Doncaster's shopping district, primarily flat (about 12m of climbing on each of the three laps), well signed and marshalled, though with some sharp-ish turns, so if you're a faster runner, you probably want to get off at the front. My only gripe would be that there are no km markers, but on a multiple - lap course this might I suppose be confusing? Bottle of water and a t-shirt at the end for all finishers. In short: Good Value and well organised In full: A well organised race, at a good price. A local beer as a memento / post race recovery drink (!) and no unneccessary trinkets (cheep tees / medals) to bump the cost. For me the burger was not really an added benefit - I ate it (I'd eat anything after a race!) but I didn't think it was nice. Would have preferred a nice bowl of pasta and sauce! The course was accurately marked, free of traffic, and is pretty flat. Information was clear, the start was prompt, and it all ran smoothly. Although it's unfair to comment on the weather, being outside of the control of the organisers, cool drizzle is ideal for a fast 10k (if not for queueing for a burger)! Date of review: July 5, 2011
