In short: Tough hills but a nice run In full: Haven't done this for a few years and forgot how many hills there are. A tough challenge but I really enjoyed it and will definitely be back next year. Date of review: May 13, 2013
In short: Fabulous day! In full: I had an amazing day thanks to the fantastic organisation and support provided throughout. The marshals were great throughout and offered much needed support. It was also great to have so many local people coming out to cheer us along and this was again appreciated.
Stratford is such a lovely place and it was nice to have a run around the town before heading out to the scenic countryside. I personally really enjoyed the long track, but it seemed to go on forever on the second lap!
Would really recommend this race and hope to be back again in the future. Date of review: April 29, 2013
In short: Great race but had a stinker! In full: This was my first experience of anything other than a running race so I was quite nervous about how everything would work. This was fairly well explained through signs and a briefing before the swim.
Organisation seemed strong and I imagine something like this takes a lot of planning so I was impressed. Also, the leisure centre where the race takes place is a great venue with superb facilities.
The swim was good and most people seemed to share their lane with a maximum of two other people. I was really relieved about this as it was one of my main concerns ahead of the race.
The run was really enjoyable and was four laps around the local streets. It was completely flat which was great and the fact that it was laps helped to keep pacing in check.
My only downside of the event was the fact that I was allowed to swim 22 lengths rather than 16. A float was meant to be placed into the water to let you know that you had 2 lengths left, and whether this happened or not, I did not see it and carried on swimming. Obviously I need to take a lot of blame for this as I should also count for myself, but I think that six extra lengths before someone was actually stood at the end of the lane waving their arms at me was a bit much. I was looking at the lane counter at the end of each lap and she did not seem to be doing anything! However, it was certainly my fault to a large extent and it isn't too fair to criticise someone who has given up their Sunday morning so that I can have a race.
Overall, this was a really enjoayable race. It is a perfect distance for someone trying their first race of this type and I can't wait to try to make amends for my error in March! Date of review: November 18, 2012
In short: Thoroughly enjoyed! In full: A really enjoyable run in perfect weather conditions. Early in the morning there was a frost on the ground and it was bitter. However, by the time the race started the sun had come out and it was a lovely morning.
The first 6 or so miles were fairly hilly, which helped to keep pace in check early doors. The marshals were great and the water stations were well spaced, if maybe a bit heavy at the start rather than the later miles.
I would have appreciated having the race number and chip sent to me in the post, as it was awkward to collect it. This was my only gripe though and overall it was a really good day Date of review: October 15, 2012
In short: Fantastic Experience In full: A brilliant experience for runners of all abilities. The crowds are awesome and the orgainisation is great. Well worth the training and will definitely be applying next year. Date of review: April 28, 2006
