In short: Superb organisation, could not fault it! In full: Having done the Chester half marathon I expected the marathon to be of a similar high standard and it was... Superb organisation, great marshalls and support around the course - particularly liked the band in one of the villages. Not so keen on the nasty little hill between miles 16 and 17 but thoroughly enjoyed the race and only 5 seconds off my PB. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a PB or regional race. And the technical shirt is fab!! Date of review: October 9, 2012

In short: Wow toughest half I've done to date! In full: I was expecting a hard race but this was hard core, hill after hill after hill, but well organised and marshalled by some very supportive people, thank you! It was a bit wet and windy but preferable to the heat for me at least. Definitely not a PB course but I set a respectable time and was pleased overall. Date of review: July 18, 2011

In short: Undulating it was not but lovely race neverthless In full: Wow! Very nearly turned round and went home again once I realised the hill was the start but glad I stayed. Fabulous marshalls, extra water stops as it was quite a humid day and quiet, scenic route. Not brilliant for the spectators who had been promised bacon butties to get them there and then the snack wagon turned up late. Could be tempted to try again next year (once the memory of the hills has faded...) Date of review: July 12, 2011

2011 Brighton Marathon 2011

In short: Didn't live up to all the hype! In full: Water, energy drinks and shots stations were superb, spectator support for a lot of the course was brilliant although Shoreham was a bit bleak! We were staying in a hotel on the seafront - couldn't get our car out, no public transport and the taxi we booked didn't turn up. Therefore had to walk 2 miles to Preston Park which is ridiculous and at the end I had to queue for 20 minutes to get up the steps... London is the best organised marathon I've done so far and whilst Brighton was a great race it needs to improve in a couple of areas. Date of review: April 12, 2011

In short: Amazing, as always! In full: Fabulous day, yet again, although the heat destroyed any chance of a PB for me. This was my third, and definitely final, Flora London Marathon and it was great to be part of the final Flora race.
Organisation was superb, spectators were out in force and awesome. The only irritating thing was lack of race etiquette by some runners throwing away their bottles right in front of you (we saw one lady go flying) and stopping in the middle of the course. Otherwise a great day! Date of review: April 27, 2009

In short: Friendliest race I've done for ages and great value too! In full: Absolutely endorse all the other comments - great value, interesting route although would have preferred no mud! and very supportive marshalls. Loved the jelly babies and cakes and will be back for the 17m and the 20m. Thank you GVH for a great run! Date of review: January 26, 2009

In short: Excellent first race - thank you Devizes RC In full: Absolutely agree with everyone else, it was worth the trip and I even managed a PB despite the weather and the hill. I got to the monument thinking it wasn't too bad and not being local didn't realise that I was only halfway up at that stage!! The marshalls were fantastic and the organisation was superb. I'm looking forward to coming back and running the race in sunshine next year guys!! Date of review: March 4, 2007

In short: Very frustrating In full: Having read all the comments from previous years I wouldn't have participated in this race except for the fact that I was running as part of a charity team. It's a great course that is completely spoilt by the absolute lack of thought given to the whole process of getting baggage checked, toilets (or lack of them), and getting to the start line. We arrived in plenty of time, spent 45 minutes queuing for the toilets, and then walked up to the start line. We joined the back of that queue and waited another 35 minutes to cross the line. Pens with anticipated start times have got to be sorted for future races! The course was fine and although there were a lot of slow runners the roads were wide and there was passing space most of the time. The final insult was, having traipsed back to the baggage bays, being told there were no medals left! If I'd paid £30 I'd have been really unhappy. We did finally manage to find medals but how much simpler to give them to everyone as they crossed the finish line!! Given the current format, definitely not a race to try for a PB and I certainly won't be there next year - charity place or not! Date of review: July 2, 2006

In short: Good course, late start due to poor parking organisation In full: The organisers need to get smarter about parking, those that arrived on time had to hang around at the start, not much fun today given how cold it was! Not really spectator friendly as they only see the start and finish, would be nice to see more support round the course. Still much more interesting than many road races though - it would be lovely to see the park in spring! Date of review: February 19, 2006

In short: I achieved my Personal Worst. In no way should this be described as a race, no-one took any notice of where they should start and I don't think I managed to break into a run from start to finish! Date of review: August 24, 2004
