In short: Excellent.... well done all involved. In full: Not a fast course, the hills put pay to any PB, but it is not always about getting PB's. Great race, and nice day at the zoo. I will be back for more! Very, very generous V40 prize! Thank you :-) Date of review: March 22, 2009
In short: Enjoyed the day, and good a PB.... just a few minor points.. In full: Good race.. BUT.... 'Waves'.. what is all that about!? Marshalls carefully positioned Orage A, B & C, and then at last minute changed the whole plan, and everyone went off together.. Why!? Also, if you came in top 100 last year, why are you placed in the second 'wave'!?.... 'technical' fabric T-shirt please if you pay over £30 to enter. Choc bar in goody bad please.. not breakfast muselli (probably not spelt correctly). BUT... will I be back for more.. probably :-) Thanks to all those who marshalled and supported in the now traditional GSR weather. Date of review: October 27, 2008
In short: Well Done Cirencester AC - Good Race. In full: Nice course, generally better than last year, only one point - the start - agree with other posts that this could be better. Could you start it with one lap of the grass field, to allow a wider start area? Otherwise, great race. Date of review: September 28, 2008
In short: I Enjoyed It ! In full: I went the wrong way, and ended up running at least 8 miles.. but do I care.. no, not really, it was good fun, a lovely evening and it was nice to do an event where you are not obsessed with PB's, finish position etc. Date of review: September 19, 2008
In short: Did Not Run - Water Station Marshall In full: Just a thank you from me to all the runners. As a marshall at the 10 mile water station, I could se how diffiuclt the conditions were, but everyone remained in high spirits which meant a very friendly atmosphere, so WELL DONE to all who took part. It did not look easy ! Date of review: July 27, 2008
In short: Well Done To All Concerned - Excellent Race. In full: My first time at this race, and it was a little harder than I expected, but still an excellent day out. Why oh why, have I wasted my time at the Bath Half Marathon for the last few years!?! Looking at the feedback from Bath Half again, I definately made the right decission this year! Date of review: March 17, 2008
In short: Good, well organised race. In full: Great to run totally traffic free course, and I agree very spectator friendly. Being on a motor racing circuit, the temptation is to start off a bit too fast, and there was a strong headwind for approx 3rd of each lap, but on a good day, this course could certainly get you a PB. Just pick the racing line! Date of review: March 10, 2008
In short: I Love 10 Mile Races. In full: 10 miles is my favourite race distance, and to have a big city race over this distance is great. Nothing can be done about the weather, in the 4 times that I have done the race, it has been windy, lovely and sunny, and two wet ones! Its just pot luck.
I think it is a fairly quick course, have consistantly improved my times each year.
Portsmouth - a strange place. On the one hand, excellent support all the way round the course, but unfortunately the city does seem to contain more than the national average of muppets! 2 years ago we had our car damaged, and this year my wife had an egg thrown at her, which broke on her head. This hurt her and gave her one hell of a shock. This happened around the 3 to 4 mile point of the race. I do not know if anyone else saw this, or had the same problem, but the police should be aware of this. It is very, very worrying and dangerous. She still has a sore head today.
Agree with other comments regarding traffic, goody bag etc. Yes.. sorry, but the celbs should not be in front.. I nearly ran into the back of John Motson in the first 50 metres!
Will we be back next year... of course.. I just love 10 miles !! :-) Date of review: October 29, 2007
In short: Very enjoyable Half Marathon & a PB ! In full: First time I have done this race. Yes, there is a problem at the start, but I felt more sorry for the people at the back of the 10km race, as it not nice to have people cutting in and overtaking you (and I was one of those people!). Simply need to start everyone off together or just allow a good 5 mins before setting off the half marathon. Anyway, apart from that it was well marshalled, and a good PB course, made even better due to the conditions on the day which were near perfect for running. Thanks to all concerned, and thanks for my V40 trophy and the bottle of wine :-) Date of review: October 8, 2007
In short: Next Time I Think I Will Just Run The Half ! In full: First, for a city event, I found it better organised than Bristol and Bath, and miles better than the GNR which is now just tooo big.
I did the full marathon and was looking for a good for age time for London next year. However, despite getting a personal worst time, and failing by nearly 20 mins, I would still recommend this event.
I think that the first half was good, and although undulating, I would rather have run round the same loop again, as what slowed me in the second half was that lake & the wind !! What kept me going, was the marshalls in the second half of the race who were very freindly and all offered words of encouragement on parts of the course where there were no other spectators. So a big thank you for all those who must have sat for hours by a windy lake looking at a long row of tired looking runners.
Maybe back again... but next time, I think I will just do the half. Date of review: September 17, 2007
