In short: Stunning scenery. Might as well enjoy it cos there's no chance you'll get a PB!
In full: Entered this race on a whim 6 days before race day when I realised it was near to where I was staying on holiday. Nice lie-in on race morning as it was a noon start time. Undulating first 6 miles, followed by killer hill opening out into stunning lakeside view. Wonderful downhill finish. Came top in my age category. Not bad for a lass from ultra-flat Cambridgeshire!!

In short: Small local race with the smooth organisation of a larger event.
In full: Great race. Smooth as butter organisation with the finishing touches of a much larger event e.g. chip timing and a personal printout of your result within seconds of crossing the line. Good route with some nice long straights making overtaking much easier, and a lovely gentle downhill for the last couple of miles. Great tea and cakes afterwards in the village hall. Very beginner-friendly. Would highly recommend.

In short: A thing to do before you die.
In full: This was my 2nd GNR and I enjoyed it much more second time round as I knew what to expect. The atmosphere is superb. The live music the boost zone and the Red Arrows were particular highlights. Yes its not a scenic race but if you want scenery, best to head for the hills rather than a large town in the North East! As for the journey home, we caught a bus back into town rather than travelling on the Metro like we did last year. We queued less than 5 minutes. Great service. HINT Don't queue for the first bus you come to. Keep on walking and buses further down the road will be empty and waiting for you!

In short: A trip down memory lane
In full: I went to university in Cardiff 25 years ago. I never thought I'd be back to run a half marathon. I enjoyed the race, seeing all my old haunts and although I didn't get a PB due to a dodgy knee, the race definitely has PB potential. Plenty of crowd support, well marshalled, well organised. HINT. Stay in the Travelodge Atlantic Wharf and you can roll out of bed and onto the start line, with no need to queue for the toilets!

In short: Great race. I can see why it is so popular.
In full: I did the half and found it tougher than expected. The scenery is wonderful but I found the trail a bit monotonous after a while. I developed a side stitch at Mile 8 which I couldn't shift and which made the downhills really painful every time I put my right leg down. I considered doing a roly poly at one point, probably would have been faster! I will definitely be back next year as I know I can do much better on this PB course.

In short: Great race. Definitely do it again.
In full: Nice route through small South Cambridgeshire villages with plenty of crowd support on the way round. Great marshals giving lots of encouragement. Nice technical T shirt in goody bag. I would definitely do this race again.

In short: My third time at this race. It is one of my favourites. Flat as a pancake.
In full: What happened to the predicted thunderstorms? I was boiling! The first 5K went well and I was well on track to smash my PB, but by 7K I was really flagging and couldn't wait to finish. The marshalls were very encouraging, but the crowd support was non-existent except at the beginning and end. Hey ho. I guess I'll be back next year for another stab at my PB.

In short: Well-organised village race. Small but perfectly formed.
In full: This well-supported little race would have definite PB potential...but not in 30 degree heat. Pretty flat most of the way round, with just a small hill on the way home. Thank you to the family with the hose pipe in the last mile, and the kind lady who poured a jug of water over my head at the end. Race photos of me will not be appearing on the front cover of Runnersworld any time soon!

In short: Fast and flat but very exposed.
In full: Small friendly race in pleasant fen village. Nice way to spend a Sunday morning. Need to do more training into the wind as it really slowed me down.
