In short: Probably the best half marathon ever In full: What drama, I have run at almost all of the Llanelli events and to date the weather has been hot and sunny. This year we had a microcosm of every weather possible. But this made the event even more special. Wind, rain, hail, and spells of sun all within a couple of hours and all coinciding with the run.
However I felt there was even more camaraderie than usual as we, the runners, battled the force together.
This is an exceptionally quick course and I am sure one day the right athlete in the right conditions will get a time worthy of being in the top UK rankings for the distance.
How slick can the organisation get? Each year it gets better and better. The marshalling team are by far the best I have encountered. The high profile presence of St John and police again added to the professional feel.
Thank you for my free massage, free parking - enough space for all our cars, less than 50 meters from the race start and finish, a great memento and for cutting the timing chip off my shoe – sorry for sweating over the person on their knees.
Most importantly, thank you to all who made this event happen.
In short: If not classified as one of the top events in the UK - it soon will be In full: Again a fantastically organised event with the precision of a Swiss watch..... some other well known events please take note.
One small gripe ... why no small t-shirts? but I bet this will be addressed next year.
Thank you for everything and will be back next year .... God willing Date of review: June 28, 2007
In short: Way better than last year - well done In full: Marshals you were brilliant; your encouragement was just what the doctor ordered.
A note to the organisers – We runners take for granted the hard work and effort you put into an event. We don’t feel the stress, and sweat that you must feel through the preparation of the event. But I for one am very glad that people like you exist. Without your efforts none of these top class events would exist.
Many thanks and well done and please continue to give us days to remember.
In short: Fantastic - Well organised, brilliantly marshalled - the best race I've done in years In full: Well done to the organisers and the marshalling team. Everything about this event was spot on. It was a little windy but to be expected on a coastal route. The small field in no way spoiled the atmosphere and I am sure that this event will eventually attract very large numbers of participants. It is pitched perfectly for on the training calendar for the London Marathon.
They have a great venue in Llanelli with the miles of traffic free cycle track and the scenery is stunning.
The bottled water was a good idea but they should consider using 250ml instead of the 500ml bottles that were given out.
Nice to have a meal provided at the end of the race I needed it; and the free massage certainly helped me recover. The meal voucher, massage, the t-shirt and all that the event offered provided good value for money and being a race organiser myself I could see that there was excellent attention to detail. Even having toilets on-route was a sign of the high standards set – (many of the bigger city events do not cater to this level).
The support given by the marshals the teams of St John Ambulance volunteers dotted around the course made it feel like a much bigger occasion – thank you.
I will certainly be recommending the Llanelli Half Marathon to all my running colleagues and I look forward to returning in 2007 Date of review: March 7, 2006
