In short: How HOT was it?
In full: My first time for the GNR, and, probably won't be my last.

Once you've done it the once, you then know what to expect, and, want to go back and improve your time.

Be warned though, you are NEVER alone in the race, you are always within touching distance of another competitor, simply because of the number of people who do it.

There are two downsides.

You have to be at the start, very early to drop off a bag if necessary. And another bad point is getting to the Metro at the end, took me around an hour.

These are minor quibbles, and, it wouldn't put me off attempting again in the future.

In short: PB Material
In full: This is my 2nd year running the Baxters 10K. Maybe sometime in the future I'll be brave enough to tackle the Loch Ness Marathon.

A big change from last years very, very wet conditions.

Definitely a PB best, knocked 1.5 minutes off last years time. Maybe it was the change in weather, but, this course is definitely one for PB's.

Goodie bag is fantastic, support staff are on hand to provide you with everything you need at the finish.

They even have helpers who can take off your championchip if necessary, very useful if you're a bit knacked after a fast run.

In short: What good is a pot noodle in the middle of a Royal Estate
In full: Unless you are a very experienced runner, nothing prepares you for the hill.

This year I had to walk up.

Next year, even if it's slow, I'm going to run up.

Unfortuantely, because it follows tracks, the spectators soon thin out.

Still another one for next year and maybe they'll get the goodie bag sorted out.

Pot Noodle's and washing up powder, aren't really that useful.

Maybe a chocolate bar and a banana would be better....

In short: Pity about the rain at the end
In full: For those of us who are simply 'joggers/plodders' by the time I finished the crowds had largely gone and it had started to rain.

However, having done a lot of hill work, it helped going up round Arthur's Seat.

In short: Wind, wind and more wind
In full: Overall, fairly happy with my performance. The steep hill would not have seemed so steep, had it not been for the wind.

This at least gives me a flavour of what to expect for the 10K in May.

In short: My 3rd "competitive" race of the year. The soaking didn't help, but, I was pleased with my time.
In full: If this doesn't coincide with the GNR next year, then I'll definitely do it again, to see if I can improve on my time.

Let's be honest the torrential rain didn't help, but, wasn't really a hinderance either.

oh, one minor criticism. The water given out didn't have the sports tops, so I ended up with most of it all over my hand. I would have prefered to drink it personally.
