In short: Excellent race, although hard as nails due to the heat. The spirit of the runners and the crowds got me through.... In full: Thank you to the hose pipers, the water carriers, the water pistoliers, the guy who gave me some energy slime... you all got me to the end by foot rather than ambulance! In short: Like running in a crowded herd of antelope, but fun all the same! In full: It seems this race has grown beyond its capacity. It was a great atmosphere with all sorts of runners and excellent crowds, but at times it felt chaotic bordering on dangerous.
For example, at the start people were having to climb over or move the safety barriers to get behind the line and into the funnel. There was a bit of a mad rush as the starting pistol went that could have turned nasty.
Similarly at the end it was very busy and there was potential for a crush / injury as people funneled out of the castle walls.
The only other issue was there was no-shirt despite the ad saying there would be. Not major but noted.
I don't want to be overly negative though as this is by and large a fantastic racing event - and the crowds are testament to its success. It perhaps just needs a cap on entries or organising differently to accomodate the number of runners. Date of review: March 22, 2010
