In short: Amazing challenge for someone who has not dared to move past a half marathon!
In full: The start could have been a little better organised - I ended up in the wrong starting section!! It was a wonderful challenge as I have never ventured past the half marathon comfort. Now maybe I could go another step further to a full marathon!! The course was relatively flat, totally flat if you live in an area like mine! The locals came out and gave support which was really wonderful. I was running for Roy Castle's Lung Cancer Organisation and one lady thanked me for running for them. This brought a tear to my eye as I was running this on Mothers Day because I have recently lost my mum to Lung Cancer, this was my first Mother's Day without her and I wanted to honour her in a different way. SO that lady made my day.

Finish line was a bit sad because the spectators could not really get to you to cheer, but the ones that did were great.

The water stations were well staffed and all lovely and welcoming. Thanks to the you cadets for also giving their support.

Wonderful race that I will do again and again I hope.

In short: Great Experience Fantastic Finish
In full: This run is all about the people of Newcastle and South Shields. The street are lined with beautiful human beings of all ages giving you water, ice poles, oranges and even buying suckers from the ice cream vans and giving them to us as we passed by their towns. I was continually cheered on by the wonderful people, thanks to one lad who cheered at just the right moment, I so needed that encouragement. The finish is spectacular, you come over the top of the hill and there is the sea and you it gives you another kick to push you to the finish line. The red arrows put on a great show and that was worth finishing for. I have taken part in 5 half marathons and this was te best for the support and finish. I could not believe how I could just not move because of the vast field of runners and I have never ran to the finish were I have been unable to sprint because there were too many people around me! The end was just like the start, so many people all working towards the same goal. How amazing. I witnessed many wonderful acts of people at their best, see we are a great race! One lad gave her water up for another person struggling and in need of water, people apologising to you as they knocked you, which was inevitable due to the vast field, people running for causes so dear to them and precious. We are a winderful race and I am proud to be part of it.

In short: Absolutely fantastic
In full: The event is wonderfully organised. This was my first time doing this event and the first thing I noticed was all the club running vest. This made me a tad nervous, but no need, everyone was extremelly friendly and saw no signs of club snobbery! Everyone just seemed to be out for a lovely run in the glorious, if not too glorious sunshine. I loved the friendliness of the marshalls and the spectators, so a huge thanks to them. Oh and the ladies from the bungalow at the bottom of the hill who provided us with an unofficial water stop, how pleased was I to see them and how grateful I was, THANKS. The scenery was breath taking, and when you get to the canal after the 8K mark is just sensational and worth the hills. Could do with porta loos as the pub can't cope with lots of desperate ladies! The way they shout your name as you are finishing is just the business after all the effort you've put in, it does not matter where you come in the run it makes you feel like the winner, so who ever thought of that is just brilliant and the organisers jot down your number and time to give you an official finishing time. What care and precision they have taken to organise a wonderful event. Thank you to all the runners who make these events friendly and a huge thanks to the orgsnisers, marshalls etc who out such wonderful touches together to make it the most memorable race/event I have taken part in. I will become a regular and I hope it always keeps its friendliness.

In short: MY FIRST! I DID THE HALF AND IT WAS VERY HILLY. THE ROUTE HAD BEEN CHANGED THIS YEAR AND ACCORDING TO RUNNERS WHO HAD COMPLETED IT IN PREVIOUS YEARS IT WAS A HARDER ROUTE. TRUST ME!
In full: I FOUND THERE WAS A DISTINCT LACK OF SPECTATORS WHICH WAS DISSAPOINTING AS I HAD HOPED SPECTATORS WOULD KEEP ME FOCUSSED. I THOUROUGHLY ENJOYED IT THOUGH EVEN THOUGH THE WEATHER WAS EXTREMELLY HOT WHICH MADE THE HILLS FEEL WORSE. HAD THERE BEEN MORE ENCOURAGEMENT ALONG THE WAY I'M SURE I WOULD HAVE DONE BETTER. THE VOLUNTEERS MADE A FANTASTIC EFFORT OF ENCOURAGEMENT WHEN YOU RAN THROUGH WATER STATIONS WHICH WAS APPRECIATED. THEY DID A GREAT JOB. DIDN'T LIKE GETTING STICKY FEET AT THE LUCOZADE POINTS THOUGH!
