In short: The name says it all... In full: This is a race that I do most years. The course has changed; the start is now off-road and the early bottle neck does create issues when you are all trying to get through the gate at once. But the early uphill is fun. The return of the lakes is a killer. Its mud, mud and more mud.
The marshalls were great, and there was one who was always smiling. More distance markers would have been appreciated.
I loved it and will be back again. Just please don't put the price again. Date of review: February 3, 2013

2012 The Resheduled May Hill Massacre
 | | Overall score | | 100% | | Would you do it again? | | Yes | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 80% | | PB potential | | 40% | | Atmosphere | | 60% | | Organisation | | 60% | | Value | | 100% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 60% |
In short: It hurts !!!!! In full: This is the first year that it has been run by Blacksheep. They advertised this as 9 miles, other runners have said it was over 8 miles! The change of course was a surprise; in a funny way I missed the lakes which in previous years has killed me and where one runner lost the sole of his shoe some years back!
My time was an improvement of over 8 minutes, so either I am fitter, the course faster, or the course shorter!
Still its a local race, which is cheap, and held in some beautiful countryside.
Look forward to next year... Date of review: February 22, 2012

In short: One of the best In full: This was my first Sodbury Slog and I will be back for more. The organisation was first class, the water stations with jelly beans were great, the mud just stank, the marshall were all fab. This is one of the best races that I have ever run.
I would also like to mention baggage storage, for me this was well organised, and there was a wonderful young girl calling out all the numbers. She was just like a bingo caller, and had all the others running over with the bags. Well done!
This race is a must, and puts others to shame. Date of review: November 13, 2011

In short: Wow, what an amazing run this is...! In full: Arrived early and the place already had an atmosphere. The admin was fantastic (okay there are never enough toilets!). Plenty of freebies and smiley faces.
The route took in some of London's best sights, and the crowds that greeted us when we ran into Hyde Park was brilliant. So many helpful people, and friendly faces.
Best race I have run. I have fond memories of this half-marathon.
Thank you. Date of review: October 9, 2011

In short: Hard!!!! In full: This is a tough run, and I do mean tough. The hills really do take it out of you and the mud, well I'm just glad I watched Bear Grylls, so I knew how to escape the sucking mud pools. One poor guy was running with only one shoe, having been lost in the mud. This is a tough run, and I felt it. Good atmosphere, lovely location, and the rain, well it just made it muddy, slippy and slidey! Date of review: September 19, 2011

In short: This event never feels to amaze me ... don't they read the feedback from previous years! In full: I have done this race for so many years now and it amazes me that the organizer does not listen to what people tell him or so it seems!
Still a lack of toilets, and those that they do supply have a huge queue. Get a urinal for men to free up the toilets. The start, it’s the worst that I have ever seen, it was a sea of people, still no pens, and what happened to cause the huge delay? I then witnessed slow runners with the elite / fast club runners! Yes you read it correct!
The route is always good, but I felt for the council workers collecting all the bottles, why not have huge bins for people to through the bottles into.
There was no musical atmosphere as in previous years. The goodie bag was an insult with the worlds worst T-shirt. Thin material with a picture of Haile Gebrselassie. Why? What has he got to do with this year's event. "One year to 2012!" what a stupid statement.
Verdict is like a school report. Tries hard, but fails to pay attention. Better luck next year.

2011 Tewkesbury Half-Marathon

In short: Its improved but still room for improvement In full: Since I did it last time, the race start has changed, and the course has more traffic free zones. The majority of marshalls and staff at the water stations were so happy and friendly, however there was one marshall who had her face down to her knees.
The use of no waiting cones in the middle of the road I found interesting, surely for the money correct cones could should have been used.
The water stations were in the right place, but what happened to the High 5 drink at the half way point? All there was water, if you advertise that it will be there, the promise need to be delivered.
The medal was nice.
Toilets: Why hire so many portaloos but never a urnial block. The latter would free up the loos for the girls.
Would I do it again - don't know. Date of review: May 22, 2011

In short: I can still smell the mud !!!! In full: This is a tough run. I have done the mud runner and now the Obvilion, both are great races, but I have to say that I enjoyed this more. Fabulous obstacles, the location was just right, and the runners were the correct mixture. The lakes at the end took it out of me, but the crowd including my family made the day. I recommend this race to everyone. Date of review: May 9, 2011

In short: Hell, but I loved it! In full: This is an amazing event, and I hope that when the new company takes over it will remain the same.
The course is hard, but with the marshalls and supporters it made things easier. I recommend this race to all; I loved it. 10 out of 10!
A big thanks to the man who organised and thought of this run for his charity. Date of review: February 6, 2011

In short: Hell, but in a nice way! In full: As the others have said...mud, mud and more mud.
The course is hard and at times I wondered what I was doing running it. But the end was great with the kids calling out for a 'Bellyflop'. It made my day. The medal was unique, and the T-shirt was the best I've had in ages.
I will be back. Thanks Date of review: October 17, 2010
