In short: A poor example for the kids
In full: In the 3k Race, no signage, no results, no-one at the finish, had to walk down a boggy lane to get to the start and finish etc.

When we did ask at the (10k) registration about on the day entries (the only type allowed for the 3k), we were very curtly told "outside somewhere". The few marshalls that they did have in the race were abrupt and in the wrong place. There was actually no-one at the finish at all and the winner did not even know where he was supposed to stop! No times/positions were taken and when we enquired about this the advertised "3k Race" had suddently turned into a "Fun Run". This is organised by a fantastic club and the adults' 10k race was up to the usual high standard but sadly the 3k race was very disappointing and unlikely to inspire future generations of runners.

In short: A little shorter than 1.5k (around 1250m) but a great, flat, safe route for kids
In full: Very exposed to the elements and the kids had a real job battling the wind. However it is an easy, flat out-and-back course away from traffic. However the senior triathletes who were warming up on the course (on their bikes) could have been a bit more considerate as I am sure that they would be the first to complain if kids were playing on THEIR course whilst they were racing. Marshalling (or signage) at the finish also needs to be a little tighter but overall an enjoyable and well-organised event. It was particularly nice for the kids to get the pep talk from the starter before the race and a lovely touch to give easter eggs to the winners.

In short: The Reading Rain Run!
In full: The weather was appalling but this did not dampen enthusiasm of either the organisers or participants. A few little concerns over organisation; most notably that the children (and some of them VERY young children) could not be seen at all times. Also even at the advertised distance of 3k, It was also a very long distance for some of the very young ones. It was however a long 3k (nearly 4k) and was clearly too much for some of them. Suggest that the laps be smaller and as no results were recorded allow the children to drop out when they wished. This was after all not a race but a fun run (in the original definition of the term). It was indeed a lot of fun and we WILL be back.
