In short: Fantastic route & atmosphere...ruined by baggage nightmare In full: Lovely route with ncie scenery, 5 miles uphill and then 8 miles downhill all the way back. Fantastic atmosphere thanks to the wonderful people of Sheffield. Organisation swayed between average and terrible: immediate text showing chip time after the finish was a nice touch, lack of organisation at the start with folks jumping barriers was a mess, water stations were not sign-posted in advance leading to runners swerving across the road at the last minute, and the baggage collection... well, how do I express myself without very bad language?! I waited for an hour in the freezing cold wind, there were people in tears they were so cold, and I missed my train home. The shambles was only resolved by us runners telling the guys on the bus (quite forecefully) what to do and acting as a human chain to get the bags of the bus. It has been a long time since I got that angry. Ruined the whole race for me! A real shame.
In short: Tough tough race thanks to the weather In full: The torrential rain must have put folks off so the field of runners was pretty small but those who stayed away missed out. The 20km course was flooded so the organisers had us running two laps of the 10km route... knee-deep water, ankle-deep mud, hard climbs and slippy descents made it really tough but lots of fun. The marshalls were encouraging and in all the right places. Will definitely do it again next year, I just hope the weather is as terrible! Date of review: June 16, 2012
