In short: A tough race, but definitely worth it
In full: Anyone thinking of entering the realms of serious ultra running, this is a good race to start with. Not too hilly, not quite 100miles, easy cut offs. Plenty of food at the checkpoints

In short: Well organised slightly hilly course with too many very sharp bends s
In full: Organisation went very smoothly, with a tough hilly section in the first half. The second half was slowed by several near 180degree turns. After I finished I saw a runner collapse 150 yards from the finish. The crowd were great helping him, but it took nearly 10minutes for any official first aid to get to him, not great given how close we were to the finish.

In short: Very well organised, the course felt like more downhill than up. The great weather helped

In short: Repetitive 4 laps, started late, poor atmosphere considering it was Christmas
In full: I acheived what I set out to - a PB. But beyond that this race was nothing special considering it's held on Boxing day. It started 15mins late, which wasn't well communicated, which meant 15mins standing in the freezing cold in minimal clothing. The route was 4 laps around a lake, which got a bit repetitive.

Maybe I should stick to my off road ultras.

In short: Could do with more drink stations, and maybe something other than water
In full: This is a good first ultra, as you could hardly describe it as that! Or a very good training run, for those planning to run further. The scenery was beautiful, especially as the sun came out as the start gun went off, and never went. Very good value for money, but I would pay a little more for something more than water at the drinks stations, and maybe 1 or 2 more of them

In short: Good training for Marathon Des Sables
In full: I did this as my first multi stage race in training for the Sahara race, and met several other runners doing the same thing - great for exchanging training tips.

Really friendly atmosphere, especially in the evenings, but rediculously tough event made worse by the weather. My walking poles came in very useful.

In short: Stunning views, great weather, friendly marshalls and competitors
In full: I didn't get lost this year, I think helped by more illunimous yellow signs and more marshalls. I think there were more runners too, so there was always someone to follow.

A great goody baga the end with a technical tshirt and socks. We couldn't think of any suggestions to improve the event!

In short: I finished this marathon on a high, I barely noticed I'd just run 26 miles
In full: The transport to the start, registration and facilities at the start were all perfect. There was no opportunity to run off course like I did on my last marathon as there were marshals or very bright yellow signs at every junction along the route. The only minor complaint was the confusion and queues at the end to pick up a t shirt or medal, which was mixed in with the baggage reclaim.
